Why Paracetamol (Panadol) Is Toxic for Cats
• Cats cannot break down paracetamol safely because they lack a key liver enzyme (glucuronyl transferase).
• The drug quickly builds up to toxic levels in their body.
• It causes severe liver damage and destroys red blood cells, leading to oxygen deprivation.
• Signs include drooling, vomiting, swelling of the face or paws, brown or blue gums, breathing difficulty, and lethargy.
