Do you remember Betty?! She was referred to our Dentistry department at only 11 weeks of age, where she first met specialist veterinary dentist Dr Kevin Ng. Betty had been born with two large clefts of her lip and primary palate, creating a communication between her mouth and nose that interfered with her ability to feed.

Dr Kevin has a special interest in cleft palate repair, and with considerable care and skill, created a functional palate and lip for Betty.

Betty recently revisited Animalius to see Dr Kevin for a revisit to see how she was doing. As you can see, she looks great!!! Her surgery site has healed and we are very happy with the way she looks! She can drink, eat and play without any issues and no longer gets food and dirt stuck up her nose.

We are so grateful that her family entrusted us with her care and that we were able to deliver such a fantastic outcome. Go Betty!!!

Twice a year, Animalius closes its doors for a half day and does crazy things like talking about our feelings and chasing each other "Amazing Race" style around the hospital. This is because great culture takes time, and carving out that time is critical to achieving our goal of a fabulous team and a workplace that champions safety and justice.

Of course, there is a serious side too - sharing a vision for the business, reminding each other of the Animalius values and behaviours that embody them, and learning from experts how to develop and strengthen the skills needed for participating and sustaining the beautiful culture this team has built.

Did you know we do imaging on pocket pets? This little guinea pig attended to have an abdomen ultrasound performed and was the sweetest little patient.

Boxers, bulldogs, pugs and other dogs with short or flat noses have a condition called brachycephaly. They have a very specific set of health challenges that make veterinary care particularly difficult in some situations. On October 24th Animalius is providing local veterinarians with a free CE event covering the latest in diagnostics and treatment of brachycephalic specific conditions, so they can continue to offer the best care for these tricky but beloved pets. Happy Veterinary Nurse Day! Today, we celebrate all the wonderful veterinary nurses we've had the privilege to work alongside in our careers. Thank you for fixing the fluid pumps, finding the vein, finding all the other things we can’t, knowing the names and life stories of all patients and owners no matter how long since their last appointment, laughing off the a**l gland accidents, crying with us when things get tough, going the extra mile for a patient or a colleague, and generally being team mates we can count on no matter what. We couldn’t do this without you.

Animalius is so proud to announce a WA first – leading the way with advanced treatment for pets of Western Australia! Puppies born with ectopic ureters, a developmental abnormality, suffer debilitating urinary incontinence with terrible consequences like ongoing infections. The most common form of this condition can be treated with minimally invasive laser ablation, but this has never before been available in WA. Traditional treatment involves invasive surgery to cut and re-attach the ureters, or patients and their families have had to travel interstate to access laser treatment.

This is no longer the case! Daisy is a sweet little 2-year-old Cavoodle who came to us for investigation and treatment of ongoing urinary incontinence, and diagnostics revealed ectopic ureters. Thanks to the dedication of Dr Fleur James and our internal medicine service, Animalius is now equipped with a tiny 0.4 mm diode surgical laser and the skills to perform the minimally invasive treatment Daisy needed. This technique enabled the team to treat the ectopic ureter endoscopically, from inside the urinary tract. The laser was used to remove the wall of the portion of the ureter abnormally tunnelling in the bladder wall, creating a new opening into the bladder — where it was always meant to be.

And the best news? Daisy is recovering well, and her owner reports that the urine dribbling has stopped. 👏

We are incredibly proud to bring this advanced procedure to Western Australia, and we are committed to advancing veterinary medicine, investing in state-of-the-art equipment and tertiary-level training so that we can continue to offer our patients the very best treatment options. 🏥
