Here is what you need to know right now to protect your pets:
⚠️ THE BIG THREAT: PARVOVIRUS
What it is: A highly contagious, life-threatening virus that attacks a dog’s stomach and immune system.
How it spreads: It’s incredibly tough. It can live in soil, grass, and on surfaces (like your shoes) for months. Your dog doesn’t even need to meet another dog to catch it.
Red Flags: Extreme lethargy, loss of appetite, severe vomiting, and bloody diarrhea. It can become fatal within 24 to 48 hours.
🗣️ THE HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS ONE: KENNEL COUGH
What it is: A respiratory infection. Think of it like a nasty flu for dogs.
How it spreads: Airborne. Droplets spread rapidly through dog parks, boarding kennels, and fence-line sniffing.
Red Flags: A harsh, dry, hacking cough (often sounds like they have something caught in their throat), sneezing, or a runny nose.
🛡️ WHAT TO DO TODAY:
💉 Book a Vaccination Appointment Now:The absolute best line of defense is a C5 vaccination, which protects against both Parvovirus and the main causes of Kennel Cough. If your dog is overdue or you aren't 100% sure about their status, call us immediately to book them in for both.
Paws off the ground: If you have a puppy who hasn't finished their full vaccination sequence (+ 2 weeks), do NOT let them on public grass or paths.
Spot symptoms? Isolate immediately: Do not take a coughing or vomiting dog to the beach, doogy daycare or the park.
