👁 Introducing Floyd, a big boofer with a heart of gold 💖
We met him a couple of weeks ago when he was suffering from a painful eye condition called entropion. This is where the eyelids roll inward and irritate and damage to the eye. We all know how painful it is to have a hair in your eye - ouch!
You can see him squinting painfully in the first picture 😢
The good news for Floyd is that it is a problem that can be cured with a little bit of eyelid surgery to correct the eyelid position.
In his post op pictures you can see he is now opening his eyes comfortably and having treats! We're so happy we could help you Floyd ☺️

Have you ever seen an actual bladder stone?
I bet you can spot this one on the xray!
This is a common problem and any breed can be affected.
Stones form when urine is very concentrated, crystals will form and then grow and attach to one another.
This process takes a long time, especially to grow to the size seen in our xray and post op photo, 5cm long like an egg!
Pets usually will show signs of urinary problems, like straining to p*e, accidents in the house and blood in their urine. I do have to say that they are also very good at hiding this from us, until things are quite dramatic as per our stone case today.
If your pet shows any of these signs, get us a "wee" sample and book a check up for them today.....

🐾 Did you know that puppies and kittens have baby teeth just like us?
🐾This first set of temporary teeth usually come out of their own accord starting at about 5 months of age.
🐾 Occasionally these teeth don't get pushed out by the new adult tooth and we end up with a double tooth situation as seen in the picture
🐾 Retained teeth are a problem as food and hair get caught in them, contributing to plaque accumulation and can cause cavities in the new adult tooth
🐾 This is really common in the "Oodles" which are a popular dog breed right now. In the case of the pup in the picture, this means they'll need to have these retained teeth extracted by our vets under general anaesthetic

🏆Super-hound of the Week - Lettie 😍
We're very lucky to know Greyhounds like Lettie, who was called upon at short notice to donate some of her beautiful blood for another pup in need.
A huge thank you to Lettie and her humans, for being available and willing to help.
Lettie shows how its done with ease and grace, getting plenty of treats and love from the team, and finally a custom "SuperHound" neck bandage by our nurse Jordarna.

💉Lets talk about vaccinations for "Man's Best Friend"
🐾While health and living standards for most dogs has improved greatly over the years, vaccination rates have declined in our local adult dog population.
🐾The result is that within the last month we have seen a resurgence of infectious disease, particularly the deadly Canine Parvovirus Enteritis. Our vets have seen four confirmed cases within the last month, positive for the virus on faecal antigen testing.
💉So... is your dog up to date with their vaccines?

Our smallest patient of the week - little Tink made her revisit appointment a pleasure today.
Once again she charmed every team member and we are so happy to see her left eye looking back to normal now.

The smallest patients can make the biggest impact.
Take little Tink here, weighing in at a mighty 1.38kg (!) she managed to charm all of the team in record time!
Tink was in for surgical treatment of a common congenital eye problem called "cherry eye". We even found a small enough "cone of shame" to fit her post-op!
This is a problem where the tear gland in the third eyelid pops out of place. Thankfully Dr Tina from our veterinary team has lots of experience with replacing these rogue tear glands, so Tink could have her operation without delay
Tink really was a pleasure to have in the hospital and we can't wait to see her back for her 10 days post op check up.
