Happy 🤗🐾

Not all dogs love hugs, but adoptable Paula loves to hug everyone!! Especially when that means she's on a walk with her favorite volunteers 💓

Paula was rescued by our Animal Cruelty Task Force from a property in Polk County, MO back in November. She was nursing a litter of puppies at the time and her priority was taking the best care of them.

After all of her pups were ready for adoption and started to head off to forever homes, it was Paula's turn!

Paula has waited day in and day out for someone to come fall in love with her... but she hasn't found her forever family yet. 😔

Paula can be a little shy, but that's understandable after all that she went through before coming to us.

While here she has known nothing but love and her personality has proven to be loving and sweet. She wants nothing more than to cuddle up with her favorite people.

We recently welcomed a wonderful volunteer group from Edward Jones!

They came by and dedicated hours making beds for our cats, snuffle mats for the pups, and unfolding newspaper for our staff!! 😻🐶

If Scrappy-Doo ever needs a stunt double, we've got him right here! 🐾

This is Jack, and he's the picture perfect definition of a low rider!

This handsome pup is a 7-month-old Basset Hound mix! He has the head and tail of a Shepherd, but the body and short legs of a Basset.

Jack headed down to KSDK News to meet one of the world's greatest Basset Hound lovers, Rene Knott 💓

Despite his short stature, Jack has lots of puppy energy and is very treat motivated. He's also a wonderful cuddler and we know he will make one family very lucky.

How cute is Chestnut!? Chestnut is a 6-month-old Plott Hound mix.

Chestnut is a fun silly puppy who is also very smart and trainable! He knows how to sit and loves to show off his good manners.

Spring weather means playtime with Haus!! 🌷

Haus is a 2-year-old Pittie mix with a big bowling ball head and a goofball personality!

From Foster Home to Forever Home!! 💕

Fudge came to us as a stray in early December. He was with us through Christmas, New Years, and even Valentine's day.

Fudge headed to a loving foster home in February where he could get a break from the shelter.

It wasn't long before his perfect person found him!

Now Fudge will be spending all of the holidays going forward with his forever family 🎉

"Maisie who was formally known as Bella. Has been living her best life with her big sister Maggie. Over the summer she got to experience a 7 day vacation we took her to Montana, Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Illinois!

Maisie is a vibrant little soul, her tail has never stopped wagging since the day we got her. It’s been the best year having Maisie. We love her with our whole hearts."

❤️ Rescue Update ❤️

All 42 dogs and 9 cats made it to our Macklind shelter safely last night. Our amazing team worked tirelessly to make sure that every pet received the care that they need.

Many of these amazing dogs greeted us with tail wags and kisses. There is no better feeling than that. They knew they were finally safe. 💕

This rescue was made possible through the Missouri Department of Agriculture and the Attorney General's office. Our Animal Cruelty Task Force served a warrant through the Cedar County Sheriff's department.

A date for a disposition hearing to determine whether HSMO will assume legal custody of the dogs will take place on April 22nd.

With 51 new faces in our shelter we are in need of supplies and support.

You can drop off donations of bedding including blankets, sheets, and towels at our Macklind location. We are also always in need of toys to keep our friends busy!

🚨 Happening Now 🚨

Our Animal Cruelty Task Force is returning from the facility of a formerly licensed breeder in Cedar County, Missouri.

They rescued 42 dogs, including many puppies. The breeds include Alaskan Malamutes, Corgis, Doodle mixes and more. We also rescued 9 cats and kittens from the property.

We are beyond grateful to the Missouri Department of Agriculture and the Attorney General's office for their work to make this rescue possible.

These sweet faces are now on their way to our Macklind shelter where they will receive emergency veterinary care, dry beds, and lots of love.

We will keep you updated when they arrive 💕

If you are interested in learning more about Animal Welfare in your own community this is the perfect opportunity!

This class will be focusing on the Five Freedoms of animal welfare, with a special emphasis on programs and services related to the animals’ mental health and well-being.

You'll get to hear from one of our very own behavior team members as well as the Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA) Enrichment Coordinator.

Did you know that April is ? 🐾

It seems fitting as in just 2 short weeks we will be joining the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation for the annual Humane Day.

Humane Day is a day dedicated to spreading the importance of Animal Welfare and using our voices to advocate for change.

On April 16th from 10am-2pm we will be in Jefferson City, MO to spread the importance of legislation to protect pets in our own communities.
