Our mission is to protect the health, safety, and well-being of both animals and the community by providing compassionate, professional, and responsive animal care and control services. This is accomplished by controlling populations of stray and feral animals and enforcing County ordinances. Saint Louis County animal control officers cover 500+ square miles of land. They respond to calls regardin

Dream here is rocking her red, white, and blue and is ready to cheer on Team USA tonight! ⚽

If you're looking for a perfect 4-year-old brindle beauty to watch the tournament with, this girl is a Dream! (see what we did there 😏)

Dream is also dog friendly and would love to catch the games with a furry friend. She is dog friendly and does great with her pals.

It’s unfortunate, but black dogs are often overlooked in the shelter.

⚠️ DO NOT PAINT YOUR PETS ⚠️

Just when we think we've seen everything come through our doors, we find this poor guy.

Dino was found abandoned and covered in neon paint or dye 😞

Not only is putting paint on an animal extremely dangerous and potentially toxic to them, but it also constitutes animal abuse. Cats are known for their grooming habits and will tend to try to lick the paint off, resulting in toxic chemicals entering their system.

Staff attempted to wash Dino's fur off with Dawn dish soap but unfortunately that didn't do the trick. So, we had to shave his fur down close to the skin to get most of the green out.

Thankfully, Dino is being cared for now and will eventually have chance to find a loving home that will take good care of him. 💙

But please, don't paint your pets.

With more than 170 dogs to care for, we are running low on blankets! If you've recently cleaned out your closets and have some gently used blankets to get rid of, please consider bringing them by the shelter for our pets!

While it may sound simple, providing pets with blankets goes a long way toward making their stay in the shelter a bit more comfortable.

We are making progress... but not enough to prepare us for what's coming.

With the 4th of July just around the corner, we are preparing to see an even greater influx of intakes. Right now, however, any dog coming to our shelter would have to wait in a pop-up kennel until space opens elsewhere in the shelter.

It's simple... we need to get dogs over 40 pounds out of the shelter.

Today, Wednesday, June 24, is your last chance to save a pet's life at no cost to you. Adoption fees for ALL dogs OVER 40LBS will be waived today!

🛑 ALL RESCUES, POTENTIAL ADOPTERS, AND POTENTIAL FOSTERS PLEASE SHARE THIS POST! 🛑

The current situation at the shelter is urgent.

Our kennels are full. The pop-up kennels are out. This is an emergency.

🚨 Emergency fee-waived adoptions for dogs 40LBS AND OVER continue through tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24. 🚨

Intake numbers have continued to increase while outcomes have remined the same. That equation is never going to work. We absolutely need to find homes for dogs in our care over 40 pounds.

One of our main responsibilities is to provide care for pets in our community with no other options. We are dangerously close to not having the capacity to provide that care.

This crisis doesn't just impact dogs in the shelter, it impacts every abandoned stray, every neglected pup, and every dog who just doesn't know what went wrong.

While adoption fees for dogs over 40lbs are waived, we understand not everyone is able to adopt. That's why we have a completely FREE foster program. Even a few days in a foster home does wonders for these dogs and gives the shelter time to find more permanent solutions.

Every dog that leaves the shelter gives another dog in need a chance.

Like so many of the dogs here at the shelter… Dollar just needs a chance to thrive. But with more than 170 dogs here, Dollar unfortunately doesn’t get that chance at the shelter 😔

🚨 EMERGENCY FEE-WAIVED ADOPTIONS 🚨

We are SO thankful to see both of these kids head of to their forever homes! Rio and Scooby were both adopted over the weekend. Rio had been in our system for more than 400 days, and Scooby was struggling very badly in the shelter. Now these two are off to their happily ever after's ❤️

As wonderful as that news is... we are still very much in crisis mode this morning.

🔊 There are 180 dogs in the shelter... and its only Monday. We desperately need the community to consider fostering or adopting a dog form our shelter before we are truly out of space. 🔊

This is a crisis with roots much deeper than the limited space at our shelter. While we work behind the scenes to make progress on those challenges, we need support to address this pressing emergency RIGHT NOW.

If you can provide a home for a homeless dog in need... even for one night, one week, any amount of time... please stop by the shelter today 🙏
