Case of the week:

🐾 Bailey’s Big Journey 🐾
Beautiful Bailey has been a bit unlucky lately 🥲
Just over 8 weeks ago, she had patella luxation repair + extracapsular cruciate repair surgery on her right hind leg. She was recovering well, but after her 6-week check-up, she had a slip and sadly injured her left leg, which required MPL surgery (medial patella luxation repair).

Thankfully, she’s in the best hands! 👩‍⚕️✨
We were lucky to have Dr Sue Gibbons, our visiting orthopaedic specialist, perform Bailey’s surgery right here at the clinic. With her expert care and Bailey’s brave spirit, we’re confident she’ll be back to zoomies in no time! 💪🐶💜

Send some healing vibes her way! 💕

From lawn mower rescue to tripod superstar

Meet Codi 🐾💙

Sweet little Codi didn’t have the easiest start to life. He was found inside a lawn mower (not a running lawn mower) by a caring member of the public and brought into our clinic. One of our nurses took him under her wing, and the journey to recovery began.

Not long after, a strange mass appeared on his back leg. Despite regular bandage changes, wound care, and antibiotics, it just wouldn’t heal. A swab sent to the lab confirmed an unusual bacterial infection, and an x-ray also revealed a small fracture (which you can see here!). Unfortunately, due to Codi’s young age, there were limited medication options and his leg just wasn’t getting better.

After careful consideration and with his future quality of life in mind, the team made the decision to amputate. And wow what a difference it made! Dr Kate and Dr Dani did amazing job 💪🏽

Now a bouncy, pain-free tripod, Codi is absolutely thriving and loving life with his big brother Patrick! He’s zipping around like any playful kitten should, and we couldn’t be prouder of this little warrior 💛

📸 Swipe to see his journey — including the x-ray and the wound that just wouldn’t heal.

Arthritis can worsen in the colder months for your pet. ❄️
While your pet won’t necessarily limp or yelp if they are in pain, here are some signs we recommend you watch out for:

- If they seem hesitant to jump into the car, up onto furniture, or use stairs. For cats, they might be reluctant to climb the fence or trees.
- If they lower their body slowly when going to lie down, then suddenly fall in a heap.
- If they are a bit slow to get going after getting up.
- If they are slowing down on walks or are reluctant to walk as far as they normally do.
- Are exhibiting behavioural changes, such as being a bit grumpier than usual.
- If cats are no longer using the litter box properly (especially if it has high sides).

Give us a call if you notice any of these symptoms in your pets and would like to book a check-up

Say hello to one of our brave patients who came in with an aural haematoma — a common (and uncomfortable!) condition where the ear flap fills with blood, usually after lots of head shaking or scratching.

Treatment involves draining the fluid and addressing the root cause, often an ear infection or allergies. GT (Gizmo) is now on the mend and feeling much better! 🐾❤️
