These puppies are indeed, LOVELY! This sweet mama found herself in a rural Texas shelter, and we saw her back in June needing placement. We tried to do some rearranging so we could take them, but we were pleased when she disappeared from the list, having found placement elsewhere. However, we were shocked when all of a sudden she and her pups showed up an email, with an upcoming euthanasia deadline. While we have no idea what happened, we're SO GLAD we saw that email and were able to follow through on our initial desire to help this family!

Puppies are now old enough to find homes of their own. But you know there's no way we're leaving mama behind! We're so excited to welcome Lovely and her 5 puppies to SFTS tomorrow. To get a head start, we'd love to start accepting applications for these adorable babies and their mama(she's dog friendly and loves water!). Umm, guys? Julien just took stock of our supplies and he thinks it’s very important we share we are completely out of some much needed items: multipurpose cleaner, bleach tablets, pellet litter, toilet paper, and nonclumping litter. We’re also very low on cat food, and he “helped” set up an area for some incoming puppies and we could use some washable whelping pads.

We recently took in 39 cats from Juneau County Sheriff's Office, acquired from various local situations. While this was not at all a planned intake, this is unfortunately the reality of kitten season. Everyone needs help, and our resources are stretched incredibly thin. This post is focusing on the friendly, social cats we took in from this case. A number of others were TNR, and we'll share an update on them in the next few days!

All of the cats had been without medical care for some time. As expected, we had a lot of gunky kittens, ear mites, and live fleas. We also experienced a few cats with random abrasions or sores, mild dehydration, and a kitten with a ruptured eye. Upon arrival at Wisconsin Community Veterinary Center, our SFTS medical team got to work completing intake medical on everyone, including:
🩺Intake exams
💉First vaccines
💊Deworming
🦟Flea, tick & ear mite treatment
🐾Microchips
📸Intake photos, documenting any wounds or medical concerns

Next we focused on getting everyone settled in temporary housing, as we already were pretty full at the shelter before taking on 39 additional cats. Thankfully, quite a few fosters stepped up to help, and we had some adoptions open up kennels. But it definitely required some creative thinking!

We still have a ways to go, but we're happy to share that quite a few of these cats are on the website and starting to accept adoption applications! What we're hoping, if you're able, is for some support from all of you to ensure we can continue caring for these many lives. Our shelves are pretty empty, and our funds low with all the medical cost associated with a big intake like this. We also still have 100+ other animals at our rescue, requiring daily care.

We've updated our wishlist, organized by category for easy shopping. There are items for both our shelter, clinic, and community pet food pantry. Currently our most needed items to care for these guys include:

Beth is still looking for a family of her own! This sweet, floofy girl came to us from Austin Pets Alive! back in May. She had some wounds, which healed well, and she was adopted by a previous adopter of ours. Unfortunately, the dynamic between Beth and the resident dog wasn't the best, and she was ultimately returned.

Thankfully, her foster home eagerly took her back, and she's been relaxing in their home patiently waiting ever since. But it's been long enough, and we want this sweet, gentle girl to find her forever family. While she didn't get along with the one dog, we aren't totally ready to rule out the potential of her doing well with other, more mellow, indifferent dogs. We're willing to test it out! Beth is crate trained, great with kids, and loves to spend time outside.
