Kirby, an Anatolian Shepherd, recently completed his 6-month visit as part of the TRIAD Study. A former UWVC blood donor, Kirby is now helping advance research through The Dog Aging Project’s Trial of Rapamycin in Aging Dogs.
The SVM is proud to participate in this national study, which explores whether rapamycin can extend lifespan and improve heart health in aging companion dogs.

Clinical research allows us to develop new and more effective diagnostic and treatment options. UW Veterinary Care clinicians and staff are dedicated to raising the standard of care by using the latest technologies, while also performing research to advance veterinary and human medicine now and in the future. All studies at the School of Veterinary Medicine are voluntary. To learn more, or to have your animal take part in this clinical study, visit the link in the comments.

Happy National Bird Day! At UWVC we care for all species of birds, although we see far more pet birds than wildlife. In 2025 alone our team treated more than 600 avian patients from across Wisconsin and beyond - our oldest avian patient is 64 years old! Our special species team wants to remind everybody that proper husbandry, diet, and understanding behavior remain some of the best ways to support bird health and help birds thrive at every age.

As we look back on 2025, stories like Timmy’s remind us why we’re grateful for the work we do each day. Cases that challenge us, patients who inspire us, and teams who come together with skill and compassion define our year at SVM and UW Veterinary Care.
