raises and trains skilled service dogs to support individuals with disabilities and local communities through expert clinical therapy and service dog partnerships. WAGS mission is to promote functional independence and improved quality of life for people with physical disabilities through partnerships with highly-skilled service dogs.

WAGS is hiring a Program Director to lead our programs and oversee the volunteers, clients, dogs, and training that make our mission possible.

Our current Program Director is preparing for retirement, creating an opportunity for the next leader to learn directly from an experienced WAGS leader and ease into the role with continuity and support.

We’re looking for an experienced dog trainer and strong communicator with experience in obedience and service dog training, positive reinforcement and force-free methods, and a passion for helping people, dogs, and communities succeed!

Every life changed by a WAGS dog begins with a community that believes it's possible.

On Thursday, October 29, we're bringing that community together for the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗪𝗔𝗚𝗦 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿 at The Legend at Bergamont. 🍁

The evening will celebrate the volunteers, supporters, clients, and community partners behind WAGS' service and clinical therapy dog partnerships. Guests will also hear from Brian Vandervest, handler of Frost, a WAGS-trained clinical therapy dog serving with the Madison Police Department.

People often ask if the hardest part of volunteering is saying goodbye to the dog you've spent so much time with.

For Karen, a WAGS volunteer since 2013, the answer is different.

You may be wondering: What does a volunteer trainer actually do?

As a WAGS volunteer trainer, you'll help raise and train a future service or clinical therapy dog.

That means:
🐾 practicing skills at home
🐾 attending regular training classes
🐾 helping your trainee build confidence in everyday environments

Throughout the journey, you'll receive guidance and support from our training team, so you never have to figure it out alone!

It's a meaningful commitment, but it's also an opportunity to learn new skills, join a supportive community, and help prepare a dog for a life-changing partnership.
