Service dog in-training, Hans, went shopping to beat the heat today and may have found his new summer style! 🇺🇸☀️

After trying on a few hats, he headed home to relax in front of a fan with all his favorite toys. We think he has the right idea!

As temperatures continue to rise, remember to keep your dogs cool with plenty of fresh water, shade, and breaks from outdoor activities. Hot pavement can quickly become dangerous for sensitive paws, so be sure to check surfaces before heading out. 🐾

🌊🐾 Water Safety Matters! 🐾🌊

Summer adventures are better with our dogs by our side, whether you're boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, or simply enjoying a day at the lake. But before you hit the water, take a moment to think about safety.

Not all dogs are natural swimmers, and even strong swimmers can become tired, disoriented, or injured in deep water. Puppies, senior dogs, and certain breeds may be especially vulnerable. A properly fitted life jacket can make all the difference if your dog unexpectedly falls into the water or finds themselves in a situation they can't navigate safely.

A few quick water safety reminders:

🐾 Always use a properly fitted life jacket when participating in water activities.
🐾 Never assume your dog can swim well just because they are a dog.
🐾 Keep fresh drinking water available to prevent your dog from drinking lake or river water.
🐾 Supervise dogs closely around docks, boats, and fast-moving water.
🐾 Help your dog practice safely entering and exiting the water before an emergency happens.

Our dogs trust us to keep them safe. Taking a few extra precautions today can help ensure many more adventures together tomorrow. ❤️

Yesterday, Badger Honor Flight Mission 66 was one we will never forget. 🇺🇸🐾

Vietnam Veteran Candy and his service dog, Cherie, joined the flight alongside our West Coast trainers Alan, who served as a guardian, and Barb with Radar, this mission’s “Chief Happiness Officer.”

From the early morning send-off to the emotional welcome home celebration, the day was a powerful reminder of what Badger Honor Flight represents: honoring our veterans and ensuring they receive the recognition they so deeply deserve.

We are endlessly grateful for Radar and every one of our dogs that steps into the “Chief Happiness Officer” role, bringing comfort, connection, smiles, and support to veterans, guardians, flight crew, and everyone involved along the way. Watching these moments unfold never gets old.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers and supporters who came out to welcome, celebrate, and support this mission throughout the day. Seeing so many people come together for our veterans is something truly special, and we are so proud to stand alongside the Badger Honor Flight family in serving those who have served us. ❤️

Feel Good Friday 💙🐾

A little update on one of our newest teams! Facility dog Recon and SRO Luke! Recently placed within the Monona Grove School District, Recon has already been making an incredible impact supporting students, staff, and the community each day. From offering calm during tough moments to bringing smiles through the halls, she’s settling beautifully into her new role.

We are currently looking for loving, dedicated homes to help raise a couple of Labrador Retrievers and a Golden Retriever as future service dogs! 💛

Puppy raisers play a huge role in our mission by helping provide socialization, basic training, structure, and lots of love during a puppy’s first year of life. It’s an unforgettable experience, and you become part of a community changing lives one dog at a time.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🇺🇸

Our Midwest crew was incredibly honored to participate in the Monona Memorial Day Parade alongside Badger Honor Flight and so many amazing veterans, families, and community members. Thank you to Badger Honor Flight for including us in such a meaningful event. It was a privilege to walk beside those who continue to honor our nation’s heroes.

Walking in the parade and sharing our mission with the community was a powerful reminder of the impact service dogs can have in bringing independence, support, and hope to veterans and first responders.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers and supporters who came out to represent CCSDA and help make the day so special. We are incredibly grateful for this amazing community and all those who continue to support our mission.

From all of us at Custom Canines, we hope you have a meaningful Memorial Day as we remember, reflect, and honor those who gave everything for our freedom. ❤️🤍💙
