Southern Comfort Maltese Rescue

Southern Comfort Maltese Rescue ADOPT A PET - To be considered to adopt one of our babies, please fill out an APPLICATION. Adopting any animal takes a lot of commitment.

We are dedicated to rescuing and caring for Maltese and other toy breeds (as room allows) who are either rescued from shelters, found as strays, or no longer wanted by their family (owner). MS Word and PDF versions of the application are also available for download. We require an application, reference check, home visit, and adoption donations that vary, depending upon the age of the animal and th

e general health of the dog. Each dog has had all vaccinations, been dewormed, heartworm tested (and treated if necessary), dental (if needed), spay/neuter, and any other medical attention he/she needs. The adoption donation helps recover a PORTION of the money spent on each rescued animal. We are committed to try to find the best home possible for each of our little ones so that they don't end up in a similar situation down the road. Out-of-state adoptions are possible; however, the approved adoptive home is responsible for making the necessary arrangements to pick up their new little one. The new owner is required to help with the transportation of the dog though, as we will not ship them. Additionally all dogs requiring transportation must have a crate or seatbelt harness. We need COMPLETED applications, we cannot start the adoption approval process unless we have a fully completed application. If you do not supply complete information on your APPLICATION, we do not have time to track it all down. Vet contact information on your application is very important, please include it. PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE BIO OF ANY DOG IN WHICH YOU ARE INTERESTED SINCE THERE MAY BE ADOPTION RESTRICTIONS. WE PREFER TO ADOPT TO HOMES WITH CHILDREN ABOVE THE AGE OF 10 YEARS. EXCEPTIONS CAN BE MADE DEPENDING UPON THE ANIMAL AND HOW FAR THE POTENTIAL FAMILY IS LOCATED FROM THE FOSTER HOME. Homes with fenced yards are given preference to those without (all other things being equal). SCMR does not adopt to homes with Electric Fences*. Large aggressive dogs or predatory animals can easily get in to the yard to hurt, fight even injure dogs confined with this type of fence. In addition to injury or even death, dogs are more accessible to thieves. *To clarify, "Electric Fencing" is the electronic, wireless underground fence that keep dogs in but will not keep other animals out. Please understand that this is a volunteer effort and we all work full time in addition to doing rescue. Any help in speeding up the adoption process is appreciated. We receive an average of over 2000 HITS A DAY and many emails! We will get back to you as soon as possible. ** NOTE** We do NOT encourage giving pets as GIFTS. However, you may pay the adoption fee as a 'gift' for your special someone, but we will require an adoption application to be completed by the adopter (recipient of your 'gift'). Our dogs come to us from various sources including shelters. We do not always know the full history of the dog, some have come from abusive or neglectful situations. We will share as much information on the dogs as we can with 'approved prospective homes'. Our dogs live in foster homes in several states. We are always in need of great foster homes. We are sorry, but there is no "shelter" available for you to visit. When an application is approved, the home check goes well, and all vet references and application information checks out, a signed and notarized contract is required to finalize the adoption process. MS Word and PDF versions of our Adoption Contract are available for download.

5/28/26 - Update for Prince Lancelot, in Harrison, TN

Sadly, we have not found him, we have had a few leads for other dogs, but they were not him. We do appreciate everyone helping to find him, and keeping his info out there.

It is just so sad, it's like he just disappeared, there have not been any real sightings, and it has now been 4 weeks. If he is still outside, on his own, his appearance will have changed, longer hair, likely very matted, and being white, will be very dirty looking. We just pray that someone has him and is not aware that he is missed by us and that we are actively searching for him.

We have done so much trying to find him, we are not giving up, we will continue to search and bring him home.

Please keep the info out there and saying prayers for his safe return.

*We hired a thermal drone pilot, unless there is a sighting, or a good idea of where he could be, they can't help, they will come back out if that changes
*we posted on may platforms; Pawboost, pawradar, nextdoor neighbor, several missing dog FB pages in the area, even FB pages that are for selling.
*his microchip was reported to the company as him being missing.
*We notified the local veterinarians, and shelters
*saturated the area with flyers
*knocked on many doors, and met a lot of nice folks
*walked the area
*put out a humane trap, it has trail cameras that are checked often
*asked local businesses to put up the flyers
*and more

UPDATE 5/14/26---Prince Lancelot is still missing, today makes 18, sad and long days.

We feel that someone must have him, and don't realize that we are looking for him. We have had several good leads, but none of them were him. We appreciate the ones that let us know about the possibilities. We also thank everyone that helped to search, put out flyers, and make phone calls.

At this point, we will post updates when we have something new to share. Of course, the news we want is that he has been found, and is home safe.

Feel free to read past posts to see what we have done and continue to do trying to find Prince Lancelot.

Please continue to pray for him, that he is safe and has access to water and food, and that he will be home soon.

Prince Lancelot is still missing from Harrison, TN, he is microchipped and was not wearing anything, collar, cloths, etc.

We had two good leads for yesterday and today for different dogs, we were able to confirm they were not Prince. Many thanks to the volunteers that were able to help confirm. And our thanks to the ones that let us know about these two dogs.

Please see other posts for actions that we are taking and have taken to find Prince.

And our thanks to everyone that are helping online by posting and sharing him. Keep up the work, getting the word out is important!

We continue to pray for his safe return, we still are offering a reward for his safe return, no questions, we just want and need for him to come home.

5/8/26 - UPDATE - Prince Lancelot, lost in Harrison, TN, he is microchipped, he did not have any type of clothing, or collars on, at the time he was lost.

We have not been able to find Prince Lancelot. We are checking on a found dog this evening, we do want to confirm, but we don't think it is Prince. Many thanks to the finder and contacting us! We will let folks know when we know.

The day we got Prince is the day (Sunday) he ran away - we didn't have any time to see to his veterinary care. We do know that he needs to be neutered, and badly needs a dental. We don't know what else may be going on medically that will take funds. We are very happy to provide any medical care for Prince that he needs.

We are willing to offer a small reward for the safe return of Prince. No money will be released until he is back safe with us.

We appreciate all the help that has been given; and yes, sharing our posts helps to get the word out. Please contact SCMR if there are any sightings! Please see previous posts for all the things that we are doing to find him.

Please continue to pray for Prince and his safe return, and for everyone that is helping to bring him home.

If someone has Prince Lancelot, and doesn't want to be questioned, please reach out to us, we just want him returned.

We will arrange for a place to take him in, a local veterinarian, a church, a local groomer.

No questions, you can go to any of these places or let us know where you will take him, and we will pick him up.

If someone does have him, thank you for keeping him safe.

UPDATE 5/5/26 - Prince Lancelot, lost, Harrison, TN

There were five volunteers out today looking for Prince, knocking on doors, and putting out more flyers. Thanks to everyone for their help and support. All the neighbors know about Prince and are keeping an eye out for him.

One thing that I forgot to mention yesterday, along with all the things we have done, we have also posted on many platforms for lost dogs, including Nextdoor Neighbor.

In Florida, today there was a story from Tampa, Fl, of a dog that was missing for 12 years that was reunited with his owner in TX! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dZJhZqhfPs. So there is always hope.

Prince does have a microchip, we can hope that someone will take him in to get scanned, and it will flag us that he has been found.

Please share and continue to pray for his safe return.
