Meet Ripley and Picard . They have been in foster care and here is what their foster mom has to say!

Ripley is such a special girl and will be a great addition to your home. Ripley started as a terrified little kitten but she has come a long way in a month. She still sometimes runs from new things and new people. Once she trusts her people and surroundings, she is a sweet, soft and silky little girl. Her perfect forever home would always be patient with her and give her a safe space to retreat to when she needs it. Ripley LOVES her brother Picard, and will follow him and do anything he is doing.

Picard is beautiful and he knows it!! He’s such a ham for the camera! He is curious about everything around him and does the cutest little side tilt with his head. Picard started out as a very scared little kitten, but has really blossomed. He does still get skittish when something new happens but his curiosity quickly overrides that. His perfect forever home would always be patient when he gets a little spooked, give him tons of snuggles and always tell him how amazingly soft he is. Picard and his sister Ripley, are attached to each other with Picard taking the lead. Picard has requested that Ripley be adopted along with him because he loves to show her new things and boost her confidence. They are so adorable playing with each other and loving each other. They are excellent litter box users and so far, I haven’t found any food they won’t eat. Picard would do best in a home without small children. We have 4 adult cats that he interacts with daily, so he is good with other cats. I imagine he would not be fond of dogs. These two will bring lots of joy and love into your home, so don’t hesitate to come adopt them!!

HES's July 2025 stats are in!
We had a pretty great month for both intakes and outcomes, with more animals leaving than coming in! This has helped our current numbers drop below 500 animals in care, which is more manageable, but still too many!

We haven't had many dog adoptions so our canine kennels stay full, and we still have over 300 cats/kittens at the shelter and in foster homes...MORE ADOPTIONS are what we're looking for in August!

Check our website to see all animals available for adoption, and come in to the shelter to meet your new best friend!

"Why would I pay $150 for a kitten at a shelter when I could get one for free on the internet?"

An argument we've all heard. Let's break down some numbers, shall we?
When you adopt from HES, all animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, AND microchipped - this is all included in your adoption fee of $150. If you were to get a "free" kitten from someone off the internet, these services would run you well over $500 at most local veterinary clinics.

Additionally, when you adopt from HES, you're not only saving money, but you're saving lives! You're allowing a kennel space to open at HES, meaning we can help another animal in need.

Visit our website at heschatt.org/cats to view our available kittens, and come adopt today!

On June 14th, a group of 5 stray kittens arrived at HES. Upon intake, it was noted that they were very dirty, emaciated, scared, and on top of all that had ringworm and upper respiratory illness. Once being assessed by our medical staff, they went to a critical care foster where they stayed for a couple months to heal and be socialized. Foster mom Joan spent weeks giving these kittens tlc until they were adoptable and healthy- definitely a labor of love.

Fast forward to present day and all are ready to be adopted! Dr. Picklesnort has already found a forever home, but the others are available: Tuna McSnugglebutt, Baby Bitsy, Lady Nibbleston, and Beansprout Von Paws.

Thank you Joan and staff for being the reason these kittens are now happy and healthy. We could not save as many animals without the amazing fosters who open their hearts and homes. If you are interested in adopting one of these kittens, you can visit www.heschatt.org/adopt and learn more about them. If you want to become a foster parent and help homeless animals like these babies, visit www.heschatt.org/foster .

HES's Barn Cat Program finds homes for the misunderstood homeless cat population in our area who were not wanted where they were living. These cats, who call the outdoors their home, now need a new place to stay, and be safe, fed, and sheltered.

These cats are unsocialized to humans, so we adopt them out in pairs so they can find companionship with each other. If you have a barn, a farm or a homestead and have the land and housing to accommodate these feisty felines, please apply for our barn cat program at heschatt.org/barncat today, and we'll hook you up with the best mousers in town!

*Please note, if HES does not have any barn cats in need of placement at the time you submit an application, we will keep your info on file to contact you as soon as barn cats are available!

Update on Brently Button: Brentley's buttons have been removed and her little mouth has healed up quite successfully, thanks to the dedicated 24/7 care from her foster, and the innovation from HES's medical team! Brently Button is now available for adoption and ready to find her forever home!

She is 2.5-months-old and full of that kitten sass that we all adore. Playful, adventurous, and curious about everything, she loves to explore, play with toys, wrestle with other kitties, and snooze in her foster mom's arms. Brently Button has stolen the hearts of all of us at HES, and while we'll be sad to see her go, we can't wait for her to find her perfect forever family who will love her as much has we do!

Interested in adoption? You can fill out an adoption application on our website and we'll contact you with a time to come meet Brently and her foster at HES!

HES Community Spay & Neuter Clinic: NOW BOOKING!
We are launching our new low-cost spay/neuter clinic, and still have some appointments available for the next few weeks. Book now before all spots are filled!

For a list of services, pricing, and scheduling, visit heschatt.org/spayandneuter

Some FAQs:
🐾What are the prices?
View our rates at heschatt.org/spayandneuter

🐾How old does my animal have to be to get spayed/neutered?
Cats and dogs can be spayed/neutered generally around 2 months of age or older, as long as they weigh at least 2 lbs. Keep in mind: some animals can start reproducing as early as 4 months old!

🐾Do I have to live in HES jurisdiction?
No! We are offering our services for anyone, regardless of residence or address!

🐾What's included in spay/neuter surgeries?
Anesthesia and pain medication are included. Additional services can be added for a charge.

🐾Does my pet need a rabies vaccine to get spayed/neutered?
Yes, animals ages 12 weeks and older are required by law to have a rabies vaccine. Proof of vaccination must be provided. If no proof of vaccination, HES will administer a rabies vaccine at the time of surgery for an additional $20.

🐾Why are your prices what they are?
HES's community spay/neuter clinic is not funded by any government subsidies. Our prices are as shown in order to keep the clinic self-sustained. We hope to continue to be competitive with other local clinic's prices as we build this new program!

🐾What do I do if I only need vaccines?
You can visit one of our community vaccine clinics, which are held on the 4th Saturday and 1st Wednesday of most months. Visit heschatt.org/vaccineclinic for dates and more info.
