Clwyd Special Riding Centre has an exciting opportunity for a Freelance BHS Qualified Riding Coach to join our friendly and dedicated team.

In this rewarding role, you will be coaching both regular and new participants with additional needs, making a real difference by helping them to build confidence, develop skills, and experience the well-being benefits of horses.

Role Details:
• Start date: Immediately
• Hours: 1–2 days per week
• Qualifications required: Minimum BHS Stage 2 Coach. Or Level 3 Diploma in BHS Riding Horses, Horse Care, and Preliminary Teaching of Horse Riding.

🌟 Volunteers Needed – Join Our Expanding Carriage Driving Team! 🌟

Now that you’ve seen how fun and rewarding volunteering can be, why not find out more? Our Clwyd RDA Carriage Driving team has exciting opportunities for new volunteers!

We help people with disabilities experience the freedom, joy, and independence of driving a pony and carriage – and you could be part of it.

We have two types of volunteer roles available:

🐴 SESSION VOLUNTEERS – Help run our carriage driving sessions.
All you need is a moderate level of fitness and a positive, team-focused attitude. No previous knowledge of working with people with additional needs or horses required – just a willingness to get involved and have fun.

🛠️ CARRIAGE MAINTENANCE VOLUNTEERS – Help us care for and maintain our carriages. Some basic mechanical knowledge is helpful, but not essential.

Training and support provided.

Volunteering with us is hugely rewarding - isn’t just about giving your time – it’s about what you gain in return.

✨ Celebrating 50 years of RDA Carriage Driving! – Part 1: Getting Ready ✨

Carriage driving has been part of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) for half a century – and groups across the country have been marking this incredible milestone.

On 3 August, Clwyd Special Riding Centre joined in with a joyful afternoon of celebrations.

Participants, volunteers and families met our wonderful ponies, learned what makes them perfect for carriage driving, discovered the harnesses and carriages they pull, and even got to give carriage driving a try!

🦅 We welcomed some truly magnificent birds of prey
🐎 Laughed our way through lively hobby horse races
💪 And finished with a hilarious human carriage pull to burn off the cakes and tea!

It was a day full of smiles, laughter, and community spirit – the perfect way to honour 50 years of RDA carriage driving. Here’s to the next 50!

🌟 Riding Session Volunteers Needed! 🌟

Would you like to experience the joy of volunteering?

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support our weekly riding sessions, helping people with additional needs enjoy the freedom, confidence, and well-being that horses bring.

No previous knowledge of working with people with additional needs or horses required – just a willingness to help, a friendly smile, and a little time to share. Training and support are provided.

Opportunities are available on weekdays for leading the ponies and walking alongside to support participants. RDA riding sessions are held on Tue/Wed/Thu, morning and afternoon. There are opportunities to volunteer with our Monday Carriage Driving sessions too.

£607 raised!

A huge thank you to everyone who came to see our stall at the Glyn Ceiriog Valley Show last Saturday.

Your generous donations, and purchases of delicious cake raised a baketastic £607 - that’s a lot of cake - which, unsurprisingly, sold out! 🍰

We are extremely grateful to our volunteers and the local community for supporting us at this annual event – thank you to everyone involved.

COMING UP…

This Saturday, 12 noon – 4pm, we will be at the Ffrith Duck Race, just down the road from the Centre, at the Ffrith & Llanfynydd Community Centre, LL11 5LH.

👏Huge thanks to Morgans of Oswestry builders merchant.

Last winter and spring, our 2km all-weather track suffered severe storm damage, leaving it out of use for several months.

When we needed help with supplies to fix the damage, Morgans of Oswestry builders merchant, came to the rescue – generously providing materials at a reduced cost.

Thanks to their incredible support, the track was completed just in time for the summer season.

With the addition of improved drainage systems, the track will hopefully remain an accessible facility throughout the year.

HIRE OUR TRACK WITH YOUR OWN HORSE – Did you know, our all-weather track is available to hire, outside of our regular sessions? Exercise them around the 2km loop – complete with hill exercises. £15 per horse, per hour.
