It was lovely to be invited to capture some images of the cute attendees at the latest Dachshund meet-up at the Rackery Farm Shop - organised by Dach of Style and Wanderin Weenies.

If you have a Dachshund and would love to support two wonderful specialist charities - Dedicated to Dachshunds with IVDD & Dachshund Rescue UK, then you can take part in my fundraising sessions here:

She was bought for her daughter, but she chose Mum.

Starr is an eight-year-old white Cavachon with very clear opinions about who her person is. She is selective about who she lets in, but once she decides you have earned it, she gives you everything. Out in the country park among the heather and gorse, that quiet devotion was easy to see.

She also prance-walks when she spots something in the distance, her tail plumed over her back, as if she is aware that everyone is watching. She is. She does not mind at all.

They weren't dog people. Then they saw a sign for Jack Russell puppies and everything changed.

Thirteen years later, Eric is with them every hour of every day. At home, at work, with the children. Mostly white now, where he was once black and tan, his old bones creaking a bit, and still, apparently, their favourite child.

Out in the country park, he was in his element. Nose working, ears up, completely present. A senior Jack Russell who has no interest in slowing down.

Your dog deserves the same. Start at the link in my bio.

He comes alive on scent. It's great to see that it's his thing.

That was how Michael described Barney, a brown working cocker who is nearly three years old and has spent those years building up exactly the kind of working instincts that make this breed so special. Out among the heather and gorse, nose down, completely focused, Barney was in his element.

Then he'd switch. Soft, playful, close, the kind of dog who will steal something and give you a look that makes it impossible to stay serious. He also talks back when you talk to him, and thinks he is in charge of most situations. Both sides came through in the portraits, and both sides are very much him.

Millie is ten years old. Her face is greying now, but her owners say she is still as loving and as present as she has ever been.

They wanted these portraits to capture her character and her relationship with Popeye, who arrived two years ago and immediately appointed himself the most important creature in the house. The contrast between them is part of what makes the session work. Millie's quiet dignity. Popeye's complete refusal to be ignored.

Having had Boxers for many years, their owners wanted portraits that would make them smile every time they walked past them. I think that is exactly what they will do. Their owners travelled from West Wales for this session. That kind of commitment tells you everything about how much these two mean to them.

Hungarian Vizslas were bred as hunt, point, and retrieve (HPR) specialist working dogs. They were also, apparently, bred to look magnificent while doing it.

Maya is five years old and fully aware of her own elegance. Out in the country park, she went straight into hunting mode, covering ground with that athletic, purposeful stride the breed is known for. Then she would stop, assess the situation, and pose as if the whole thing had been planned.

Her owner runs with her every day. They are Canicross partners. The bond between them was easy to see as we wandered slowly through the country park.

If you have a working breed like this, I'm a specialist in making the best of them at the country park location a few minutes from my studio. The link in my bio is the place to start.

The curious head tilt. Those ears blowing in the wind.

That was the moment Bramble's owner most wanted to freeze in time, and out in the country park, we got it more than once.

Bramble is a sixteen-month-old golden working cocker, full of energy, good recall, and very strong opinions about squirrels.
Working cocker spaniels are one of my favourite breeds to work with. They give you everything. But I'm biased, with two of my own :)

What I loved about this session was the range it gave us. A working cocker at this age is all movement and expression, so building a multi-image frame made perfect sense. Action along the paths, quieter portrait moments, and that tilt. Each image shows a different side of the same dog.

Kenny is thirteen weeks old.

His owner has wanted a miniature dachshund since she was a child. She waited, and then Kenny arrived, and within a day of meeting him, he was coming home with her. That was not very long ago. He is still very much a puppy.

That is exactly why she booked this session. Not because anything is wrong, but because thirteen weeks is thirteen weeks.

Long-haired miniature dachshunds have a way of making you feel like you work for them, and Kenny was no exception. Brindle coat, enormous ears, and the kind of calm confidence in a new space that most adult dogs don't manage.

The ears, the doughnut shape he curls into when he sleeps, the way he peeps up at you. These things deserve to be on a wall.

I'm running special charity promotional studio sessions, at the moment. The link in my bio will tell you how it works.

Capturing the dogs at their ages. That was the one thing their owner asked for.

Molly, Rosie and Charlie belong to a client who has trusted me with one of her dogs back in 2016, and coming back for this session meant a lot. Three very different personalities, three very different ages, and that particular kind of organised chaos that comes with having a litter of dogs at various stages of growing up.

Molly is two. Rosie is eight months. Charlie is four months old. Right now, in this exact window, all three are young. That does not last. Anyone who has watched a puppy turn into an adult dog in what feels like about three weeks knows exactly what this kind of session is really about.

Three Affenpinschers in the studio, full of treats, squeakers, and personality. The portraits will say the rest.

Their joy of life.

That was how their owner described Megan and Martha, and it was exactly what I saw during our country park session: two labradors, gold and black, both completely at home in the trees and the open air. Martha had found her stick within the first five minutes.

Megan was doing what Megan does, taking it all in at her own pace, happy just to be there.

What I loved most was how good they were together. Not just alongside each other, but genuinely enjoying each other.

That's not something you manufacture.

I built a multi-image frame around it, and it captures something their owner will look at for a long time.

Why not take advantage of my charity promotional sessions running right now. The link in my bio will tell you how it works.
