Catching the last couple of evenings of summer sunshine ☀️
Yesterday evening we enjoyed sharing the beautiful evening with one of the 1st park and ride to Rawlinshaw Farm and this evening we shared the last rays of sunshine with the cows and sheep who were also feeling the joys of summer. Lovely 🐎🐑🐂

Had a lovely ride yesterday around "Crummock" and thought I would share one of our 3hr to 3.5hr (14.8km ish) rides with you.
This route has it all from quiet, easy riding walled bridleways to higher, open land riding with spectacular scenery of Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent and Ingleborough Cave.
The going is tougher up along Thwaite Lane and Long Lane, so barefoot ponies will need their boots on for this one!

Park & Ride available 🐎
We are offering the use of our field for riders to take advantage of the amazing Bridleway network we sit on here in Yorkshire Dales National Park
Austwick, near Settle. LA2 8DD (but contact us for precise location and availability)
●£10 for a full days parking (trailer or small box, up to 2 horses)
●Easy access off the main road A65 and in through double gates.
●Ample space without the worry someone will park behind your ramp.
●Safe unloading
●Direct access on to the bridleway system.

We are only planning to do this in a small way when the field is not in use for sheep etc.

Only a max of 2 seperate groups/trailers/small boxes at any one time, to keep everything nice and peaceful.

Bring your own water buckets and fill from trough.

Happy for you to put up a small corral for the day, if wanted (ample space)

Poo picking equipment available. Please clean up any droppings etc and use Tractor Bucket to dispose into.

Please leave the field clean and tidy.

Our 7 girls are ready to find their new homes, along with Jack our pedigree, homebred Blue Texel ram.

All in the Heptovac system, all vaccinated for Bluetongue and all MV accredited.

Well, we didn't manage to fill the last minute vacancy but hopefully the pony is on a speedy road to recovery. On a positive note - It did mean I could get out and enjoy some of my favourite things - Checking my sheep 🐑, whilst riding my horse 🐎 and enjoying the stunning views and sunset 🌅 and even a little play with the cows 🐄! I think I was a cowgirl in a past life 🤠

Robin Procters Scar - A ghostly story for our horse riders when they pass by on the bridleway running alongside the scar, either on the route to Clapham or around the Crummock route. Love these old stories 🐎

📍 Robin Proctor’s Scar,

This striking limestone cliff carries a haunting tale. According to local legend, it’s named after a farmer known for his fondness for late nights at the inn 🍺Robin Proctor often rode home across the moors, half-asleep in the saddle, trusting his loyal horse to guide him safely.

But one stormy night, Robin set off as usual from the inn, but this time, he mounted the wrong horse. Unfamiliar with the route, the horse lost its way in the darkness and rain and tragically plunged over the edge of the scar.

Both horse and rider were lost. Ever since, the cliff has borne his name, and some say that on wild, windy nights, the sound of ghostly hooves still echoes across the moor...🐎

Last minute availability!
Sadly, we have a cancellation due to a poorly pony, for this week/weekend - Self Catering Cottage accommodation for 2, with corral grazing for your 2 horses 🐎 and use of the amazing bridleway network right on our doorstep.
Please get in touch if you fancy a last minute get away with your horse to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, 2 to 3 nights, arriving either Thursday or Fri.

Lovely evening yesterday for a short leg stretch.

A weekend of ups and downs
We welcomed some new arrivals to Rawlinshaw Farm this week - 2 lovely little Icelandic ponies who have come to live as liveries at the farm. They have settled in very well. The herd are sorting out who is who and we went for our 1st ride round our lovely bridleways and the , with Sarah borrowing Mr T. Takes me back to when I used to race around the lanes on my shetland! Ponies are great 🐴
In contrast, the weekend has been taken up looking after one of our shearlings who has suddenly become unwell. She has been showing neurological signs and is unable to eat or drink. Thankfully she has been receiving constant 24/7 veterinary care, but tonight we are not sure she is going to make it, even with iv fluids and multiple medications. She has been a little fighter and seemed to appreciate the company she has had all weekend. Just wish we could wave a magic wand 🙁 The life of a farmer.
