Nothing else changes - we'll still keep taking your kind donations for them, and they're always looking for volunteers with lots of different jobs to do.

Martha is very old, and was abandoned on a tip. Nobody knows why, but thankfully she was rescued and is now enjoying a warm and comfortable retirement.

She loves it when the Bronte Glen delivery arrives - here she is on their Senior Gold Vet Bed. Thick and supportive for her arthritic bones, warm, and non-slip for when she tries to get up.

Classic FM will be broadcasting their special fireworks program, designed to disguise the noise and help calm your pet.

I was cynical, but having used it for the last few years, I can say I've seen it to be very effective.

Give it a try if your pet is scared on fireworks night.

This week we begin our Purple Poppy Appeal, remembering the suffering of animals in war, and those still serving to protect us now.

In 1914, horses were brought to Settle Market Place from surrounding farms and estates. They were shipped to the Front and pulled artillery and supplies, carried messengers and took reconnaissance missions. Half a million British horses perished in the fighting.

20,000 dogs left the UK, many having been family pets, and served in terrifying circumstances, taking first aid onto the battlefield, searching for survivors and guarding trenches.

Thousands of pigeons were used, taking messages from the Front to battle commanders. Some of these messages were critical - saving lives and changing the course of the War. Many were killed.

Animals have shown extraordinary bravery on our behalf. The Dicken Medal is the animal equivalent to the prestigious Victoria Cross for Gallantry. It has been awarded to 38 dogs, 32 pigeons, 4 horses and 1 cat.

So this Remembrance Day, give your pet an extra stroke, and be grateful to their ancestors who helped give us the freedom that we have today.

Today, Walter (one of our most loyal customers), emailed in to thank us for our "best" range of food and treats.
He felt that a formal photograph was most appropriate, reflecting the serious nature of small animal treat selection. And of course, what a handsome Mini-Lop he is.
