Leptospirosis - what is it and why should we vaccinate for it?

Lepto is found many places outdoors and is contracted by ingesting the leptospira bacteria. Dogs can become infected by swimming, drinking, or even walking in water that is unknowingly contaminated.
Lepto is a bacteria that affects many species, people included. It is a zoonotic disease, which means you can contract the disease from animals, including your dog.
The disease affects the kidneys and can cause a rapid decline in health if not caught and treated quickly.

We highly recommend vaccinating your dog annually for protection from Leptospirosis for your petā€™s health as well as yours!

We know we sound like a broken record, but ticks really do come out hungry and ready to feast when the weather warms up.

Adorable Oliver went in for a dental today at Greenbank Animal Hospital
and, unbeknownst to him, brought along a friend!

Luckily this tick was still crawling around and looking for a spot to attach, so their team was able to pluck him off quickly.

Make sure to tick check yourself, your pets, & grab their preventative medication to start now.

We sent an email in January discussing our transition to Simparica from Nexgard. We know we need to keep up with changes to what we feel is the best in the market & have it available to our patients.

- Simparica is on a label for 5 different tick species (as opposed to 3 with Nexgard) with an increased and faster kill rate.

- Simparica Trio is 100% effective as a monthly treatment against heartworms.

- It is a tasty oral tablet with a dose based on weight ranges that are simple and easy to follow.

- Simparica and Simparica Trio also offer rebate coupons and are slightly less expensive than the Nexgard brand.

We hope you and your dogs enjoy the switch, but if you want to stick with the Nexgard line - no worries! We will continue to carry it. We will also keep stocking Nexgard Combo for our wonderful feline patients šŸ±
