Cutie in an e-collar alert — Have you ever seen a happier face?!😍📢

Mocha a lovely Golden Retriever was in to visit our team for an allergy consultation and was sporting an e-collar/cone to protect her precious face from all of that itching.

Our pets are just as susceptible to allergies as we are. By considering your pet’s signs and symptoms, you can get a good idea whether they are food, flea, contact or environmental allergies.🤧

Signs Your Pet May Have Allergies:
➡️ Red, Irritated Skin, Hot Spots and Hives.
➡️ Frequent Rolling, Rubbing or Scooting
➡️ Sneezing, Itchy/Runny Eyes, Swollen Face, Ears, Lips & Eyelids.
➡️ Chronic Ear Infections, Red/Stinky Ears and Head Shaking.
➡️ Obsessive Licking, Chewing, Biting or Scratching.
➡️ Vomiting, Diarrhea and frequent Gastrointestinal Upsets.

If your pet is experiencing any of the signs or symptoms listed above, consider contacting our team to book an allergy consultation and discuss treatment options.

Thank you for continuing to trust Carleton Veterinary Services with your veterinary care, Mocha and Family!🐾💙

Slobbery smooches for Dr. Liz with a side of golden love and many thanks from sweet Daisy the Golden Retriever at her clinic visit!🐕😍

Pup kisses are the best medicine, and Daisy administered a healthy dose!😆 At CVS, we appreciate all of the slobbery smooches from our furry patients — they really help our vet team stay energized and feeling the love. It’s such a great feeling when patients are as excited to see us as we are to see them!🥰

Thank you for your continued trust in our team’s veterinary care, Daisy and Family!🐾🌼💙

The black flies are out and the question, “what are these red spots/scabs on my dog’s belly?” are rolling in!🪰☀️🐾

Spring and early Summer in our region, while beautiful and long awaited, bring out some tiny pests that bite our pets in sensitive areas with sparse to no fur coverage — typically the underbelly, thighs and back of the ears. While these black fly bites are jarring to find on your beloved pet, they’re typically more of an irritation than cause for serious concern.

Signs of Black Fly Bites can include:
🪰 Small red dots, bumps or spots (sometimes presenting with a dark red outline),
🪰 Scabbing on the belly or areas with sparse to no fur coverage,
🪰 Sensitive to the touch,
🪰 Itching or Irritation.

Typically the bites will heal within a few days, but if your dog is noticeably uncomfortable itching themselves constantly, develops any signs of swelling, or if the spots get much worse, please consider contacting your veterinary team to book and appointment and discuss some treatment options.

Tips for Reducing Black Fly Bites:
💡Limit outdoor time, especially wooded and damp areas, during peak black fly activity (dawn/dusk)
💡Limit frequency of laying and rolling in grassy areas,
💡Ask your veterinary team about safe pest prevention options (we’re here to help!)

Please contact our friendly and knowledgable team with any questions or concerns! We hope this information and the tips help our CVS patients enjoy the beautiful weather, itch free!🪰👊🐾

Ticks are small, but the risks aren’t. Lyme disease can lead to painful symptoms in pets like swollen joints, lameness and muscle soreness. In more serious cases, it can even affect kidney function.

The good news? Prevention is simple. Talk to your veterinarian about the right parasite protection for your pet. 🐾
