🏆 Congratulations to Dr Michelle Groleau (Canada), recipient of the 2026 WVA Global Veterinary Award for Animal Welfare.

Throughout her distinguished career in clinical practice, academia, public service, and veterinary leadership, Dr Groleau has advanced animal welfare and recognition of animal sentience through education, policy development, research oversight, and national regulatory reform. Her work continues to improve the lives of animals across Canada and beyond.

While accepting her award she thanked the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and the Canadian Government which were instrumental in making changes possible for Animal Welfare.

Dr Groleau was nominated by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association in recognition of her lifelong commitment to evidence-based animal welfare and veterinary leadership.

The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association welcomes Health Canada's new Ministerial Reliance Order for veterinary drugs, an important step toward improving access to veterinary medications while maintaining Canada's high standards for safety, efficacy, and quality.

The Order allows Health Canada to make greater use of decisions and scientific reviews from trusted international regulatory authorities when reviewing eligible veterinary drug submissions. By reducing unnecessary duplication and improving regulatory efficiency, the Order has the potential to improve access to the medications that are essential for veterinarians to provide high-quality care.

L’ACMV accueille favorablement le nouvel Arrêté ministériel sur le recours de Santé Canada pour les médicaments vétérinaires, une étape importante vers une amélioration de l’accès aux médicaments vétérinaires tout en maintenant les normes élevées du Canada en matière d’innocuité, d’efficacité et de qualité.

L’Arrêté autorise Santé Canada à se fier davantage aux décisions et évaluations scientifiques d’autorités réglementaires internationales fiables lors de l’examen des demandes de médicaments vétérinaires admissibles.
