June 1st marks the official start of mosquito and heartworm prevention season in Ottawa! 🦟

Heartworm is a serious disease spread by infected mosquitoes. Once transmitted, the parasites can affect the heart and lungs of dogs and cats, but monthly prevention makes protection simple and effective.

Did you know that monthly heartworm preventatives work retroactively? Giving your pet their first dose today helps eliminate heartworm larvae that may have been transmitted by mosquito bites received in May.

**Picked up by Bylaw. Now at Ottawa Humane Society

Dog brought in by good samaritan who found the dog wandering on his front lawn in Navan.

He is microchipped. According to the microchip company, his name is ‘Kimo’. He is 6 years old and not neutered.

The phone number associated with the owner through the microchip company is not in service so we are unable to contact them. He is currently at Colonial Animal Hospital in Navan.

Meet Re*****on; professional model, distinguished gentleman, and part-time critic of the paw-parazzi! 📸🐾

This handsome Xoloitzcuintle (also known as "Mexican Hairless Dogs") stopped by for a visit and graciously allowed us a couple of photos before shutting his eyes to let the paw-parazzi know he was officially off duty.😂

Fun fact: Xoloitzcuintles (pronounced show-low-eats-QUEENT-lees) are one of the oldest dog breeds in the world and were considered sacred companions by the Aztecs! ✨

Re*****on may have been done with photos, but we were definitely not done admiring him. 🤍

You can’t have just one Chip 😉🐾
This adorable tabby kitten had the whole team stopping by her exam room just to say hello, like the little celebrity she is. Sweet, curious, social, and impossibly cute, Chip completely stole the spotlight (and our hearts) during her visit!💛🐱

Riggs the Cane Corso stopped by for a visit, and as always, this goofy giant made himself right at home, standing at the desk like he pays the bills, patiently waiting for the praise and treats he knows he deserves. 💙

Behind all that size is a total sweetheart (and a very big baby, which only makes us love him even more!). The only giveaway that Riggs has been here? The impressive amount of drool left behind wherever he goes. 🤭

We always love visits from Riggs, drool, giant hugs, and all! 🐶❤️

Meet Pepper, the sweet little pup who's already seasoning our hearts with her cuteness! 🐾💖

She spent her visit making sure everyone got their cuddles in, and leaving us all in awe with her perfectly mastered puppy eyes. 😍 We’re so excited to see Pepper grow into the sweet, loving companion she’s destined to be! 🌸
