A Christmas miracle โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’š

During spring and summer, we see a lot of wildlife coming in and out of our hospital. Recently we had the pleasure of beginning the rehabilitation process for a freshly-weaned sugar glider!

This little guy came in essentially on deaths door, weighing in at 49g and barely having the energy to grip onto our fingers. After just 6 hours of frequent feeding and close monitoring, our friend sprung to life! Each hour he became more and more alert, and had branched out from milk replacement and honey water to bottlebrush and sweet potato.

The team became very attached to him, and after 48 hours we finally received the bitter-sweet phone call from Wildlife Victoria that they had found a carer to continue his rehabilitation before his release back into the wild. Plenty of cuddles were given before he exited the building, and although we knew we were going to miss him greatly we also knew it was his time to move on and be one step closer to the outside world.

We hope youโ€™re thriving, Mr. sugar glider! ๐Ÿฉท

Itโ€™s that time of the year! ๐ŸŽ„

Yesterday the team put up their feet to wind down after a busy year. We all brought a plate - and some were Veterinary themed! Including Urinalysis Pineapple Juice and โ€˜Latteโ€™s Emesisโ€™ - featuring a photo of Dr Gemmaโ€™s Cavoodle seconds after an impressive vomit caused by a pup-cup ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿพ

Wishing our wonderful clients and their furry, feathered, and scaly family members a season filled with love, joy, and good health. Thank you for trusting us with your petsโ€™ care - weโ€™re so grateful to be part of your journey. Have a safe, cozy, and tail-wagging Christmas! ๐ŸŽ…

Hot spots are red, oozing skin infections that appear rapidly, especially in humid summer weather โ˜€๏ธ.

Some dogs are more prone to hot spots than others. Theyโ€™re often triggered by scratching, fleas, allergic skin disease or moisture trapped under coats.

Clip the fur, keep the area dry and see your vet for treatment to stop the itch-scratch cycle and prevent a deeper infection ๐Ÿ•. Regular grooming and parasite prevention can help prevent flare-ups.

๐Ÿ’š Consult us for more advice on managing skin irritations in your pet.

Vomiting or diarrhoea in dogs can be caused by eating fatty foods, scavenging rubbish, sudden diet changes, parasites, infections, inflammatory bowel disease or blockages ๐Ÿถ.

Most mild cases resolve quickly, but ongoing symptoms or lethargy may need veterinary care. Always introduce new foods slowly and seek help if you notice any unusual symptoms or your dog appears uncomfortable ๐Ÿ’ฉ.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Book a check-up if your dog seems unwell.
