Pleased to represent the Australian Small Animal Veterinarians (AVA SIG) at the launch of the RSPCA’s fresh & fabulous campaign to keep our precious felines safe & happy; reduce stress for their loving families, the community & the environment. A very positive initiative embracing & enriching the joy that cat ownership brings to so many. Great to connect with some old colleagues & meet new ones!
Back to my usual ‘office’ & patients tomorrow 🙏

Great work everyone! Flynn’s Walk

Congrats to these 10 new safeTALK Connectors! 👏🏼

On Friday, this group took time out to complete the 4-hour safeTALK su***de first aid course, delivered by .

The 'safe' in safeTALK stands for 'su***de alertness for everyone' which is exactly what this program aims to do - bolster su***de awareness skills across the whole community to ensure everyone chooses life and is supported during a crisis.

Together, we can all play a role in reducing the number of su***de deaths by being more aware of the signs, trusting our gut, knowing how to respond and supporting a person in need.

Thank you to the trainers Alena and Kat for your thoughtful, sensitive and proactive approach to su***de prevention in the veterinary and wider communities.

Flynn's Walk is proud to have provided funding to make this workshop possible in Melbourne.

What do vets and support staff do in a typical day?

These duties are amongst the many others that our wonderful vet staff complete on a daily basis!

We have found this to be the case in the field. Cats love the fish & mice apps on iPads.
Anecdotally this environmental enrichment also brings an increase in quality of life for many of our elderly and terminally ill cat patients; probably by being distracted from their disconfort and perhaps an increase in dopamine levels etc. Look forward to more data…
Does your kitty have a favourite App?
Please share here so others can try it out 🐈‍⬛

An animal hospital in Melbourne has found cats and kittens that watch TV shows on iPads are more likely to be adopted and well socialised.

The bond between our founder Dr Emma and her father Dr Nigel is key to the heart and soul of the compassionate service ‘My Best Friend’ offers.
It is explored in the “Two of us” column, Good Weekend magazine (The Saturday Age & The Sydney Morning Herald). Online now or in print tomorrow. We appreciate everyone’s support & all the lovely comments posted. Hopefully you won’t be needing us any time soon 🐾

Veterinarian Emma Whiston took childhood inspiration to rethink pet euthanasia.

IMPORTANT: IS YOUR PET’S MICROCHIP UP TO DATE?

If your pet went missing today, would their microchip help bring them home? 💔

With the closure of Homesafe ID (HSID), any pets registered with them will no longer have accessible contact details when their microchip is scanned. This could make it much harder to reunite lost pets with their families.

The good news? You can transfer your pet’s microchip registration for free to Global Micro Animal Registry (GMAR) using this form: 🔗 https://www.globalmicro.com.au/homesafe-re-registration/

How to check & update your pet’s microchip:
✅ Find your pet’s microchip number – Check adoption or purchase records, ask your vet, or visit a vet to scan it.
✅ Check where it’s registered – Enter the number at petaddress.com.au.
✅ Registered with Homesafe ID? – Use the free transfer link above or move your details to an another active registry.

A microchip is only as good as the registry behind it so make sure yours is up to date!

Help spread the word! Let other pet guardians know to check their furry friends’ microchips too.

The closure of a pet microchip company sparks confusion, but AAHA's microchip registry lookup tool can help.
