🐱💙 A big shoutout to sweet Charlie! 💙🐱

Charlie recently visited us after developing a blocked a**l gland, and she was such a brave little patient. We're happy to report she handled her treatment like an absolute champion and is now feeling much more comfortable! 🥰

Many people are surprised to learn that cats have a**l glands too! These small scent glands sit just inside the a**s and usually empty naturally when your cat passes a bowel motion. Occasionally, they can become blocked, leading to discomfort, swelling, pain, or even infection if left untreated.

Signs your cat may have an a**l gland problem include:
🐾 Excessive licking under the tail
🐾 Scooting their bottom along the ground
🐾 Swelling or redness near the a**s
🐾 Pain when sitting or toileting
🐾 A foul-smelling discharge

If you notice any of these signs, it's best to have your cat examined sooner rather than later. Prompt treatment can provide quick relief and help prevent an abscess from forming.

Charlie was an absolute sweetheart throughout her visit, and we loved helping her get back to feeling her happy, comfortable self. Thank you to Charlie's mum for trusting us with her care! ❤️

🐾💙 10 Years of Moon! 💙🐾

Today we’re celebrating a very special milestone — Moon has been part of our Blackburn Animal Hospital family for 10 whole years! 🎉🐶

It feels like only yesterday that this gorgeous girl was a cheeky young pup attending puppy school here at the clinic. Fast forward 10 years, and Moon has gone from learning her puppy manners to being lovingly cared for through her senior years. 🥹💕

We feel so incredibly lucky to have watched her grow, shared so many visits, cuddles and milestones, and to be trusted with her care throughout every stage of her life.

🌟 Congratulations, Moon, on 10 wonderful years with us! 🌟

Thank you to Moon’s family for trusting our team to care for her for all these years. We absolutely adore seeing our patients grow from tiny puppies and kittens into their beautiful senior selves. ❤️

🐾💙 Cuddles BEFORE the check-up? Absolutely! 💙🐾

Little Eight came in for his check-up and clearly decided that the most important part of his vet visit was getting ALL the cuddles from Dr Seung first! 🥹🐱

There may have been a check-up scheduled… but Eight had other priorities. 😻

A few snuggles, a little purring and plenty of love later, this gorgeous little kitten was ready to show Dr Seung just how cute he really is! 💙

We think every kitten deserves a little cuddle time before their examination. 🥰

🤍🐾 Everyone say hello to the adorable Tofu! 🐾🤍

If you've visited our clinic before, you may have spotted this gorgeous little West Highland White Terrier making one of her regular visits!

Tofu is always a pleasure to see and never fails to brighten our day with her sweet personality, wagging tail, and those impossibly cute Westie ears. Our vets and nurses absolutely love catching up with her and watching her strut through the clinic like he owns the place! 🐶✨

Regular veterinary visits are one of the best ways to keep our furry friends happy and healthy. Routine health checks allow us to monitor for any changes, keep vaccinations and parasite prevention up to date, and catch potential health issues early—often before they become more serious.

Thank you to Tofu's wonderful family for trusting us with her care over the years. We always look forward to seeing our favourite fluffy visitor! 💙

🐶💉 Why are dog vaccinations so important? 💉🐶

Vaccinations are one of the simplest and most effective ways to help protect your dog from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases.

Hi everyone, Flirt here. 👋

So... Mum (Nurse Shanae) said I was coming to work with her. I thought, "Great! A day of cuddles, treats, compliments, and being the centre of attention."

Turns out... it was a TRAP. 😒

Dr Seung was waiting for me... and before I knew it, I was having my desexing! I would just like everyone to know that I was not consulted about this decision.

I woke up feeling a little sleepy, sporting a stylish new haircut on my tummy (not my best look, if I'm honest), and everyone kept telling me I was the bravest girl ever. Obviously I already knew that. 💁‍♀️

The funniest part? My mum is a vet nurse, and she was still worried about me all day! She checked on me constantly, fussed over me, and made sure I had everything I needed. I definitely wasn't going to argue with all the extra cuddles and attention!

The truth is, every single one of us at Blackburn Animal Hospital has pets we love just as much as you love yours. We know exactly how nerve-wracking it is when your furry family member needs surgery, has an unexpected illness, or isn't feeling their best. Even though we do this every day, we still become worried pet parents when it's our own.

That's why we're here not only to care for your pets, but to care for you too. We'll answer your questions, keep you updated, and treat your best friend like they're one of our own.

Anyway... I'm feeling fantastic now, recovering beautifully, and I'm currently negotiating unlimited treats and permanent couch privileges. Mum says "no"... but I think if I keep giving her my sad puppy eyes, she'll crack eventually. 😏🐶💙

🍯 Sweet little Honey was one brave patient! 🐶💛

Recently, little Honey came to see us feeling very unwell after developing Haemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE). This condition can come on very suddenly and causes severe vomiting and bloody diarrhoea, making pets become dangerously dehydrated in a short amount of time.

Thanks to Honey's family acting quickly and bringing her in as soon as they noticed something wasn't right, we were able to start treatment promptly. With lots of TLC from our vets and nurses, intravenous fluids, medication and close monitoring, Honey is now back home feeling so much better! 🥰

HGE can affect dogs of any age or breed, and while it can be frightening, early veterinary treatment gives pets the best chance of a full recovery.

🚨 If your dog develops sudden vomiting, bloody diarrhoea, becomes lethargic, or refuses food, don't wait—contact your veterinarian immediately.

Honey was an absolute superstar throughout her stay, and we couldn't be happier to see this gorgeous girl back to her happy, tail-wagging self. 💕🐾
