🐱 The Mystery of the Cat Purr 💭✨
A cat’s purr is one of the most comforting sounds there is — but did you know it’s still a bit of a mystery?
Most of the time, cats purr when they’re happy, relaxed and feeling safe. It’s their way of saying “I’m content” — often while being cuddled, fed, or settling in for a nap. 💤💙
But purring isn’t always about happiness. Cats may also purr when they’re stressed, anxious, injured or unwell. It’s believed that purring can be a form of self-soothing and may even help with healing, as the vibration frequency is thought to support bone and tissue repair.
Kittens begin purring when they’re just a few days old, helping them communicate with their mother — and adult cats often use purring to bond with humans, strengthening that special cat–human connection.
So next time your cat is purring, take a moment to look at the whole picture:
🐾 Their body language
🐾 Their appetite and behaviour
🐾 Any changes to their routine
A purr can mean many things — comfort, communication, or even a quiet request for help.
