Why springtime tick & flea protection matters 💚

To elaborate on our previous post this week, we have another patient with dental problems. Only this time the damage isn’t as severe but it still illustrates how even minor dental pathology impacts the rest of your pet’s health. Here we see ulcers forming on the lip - secondary to the dental pathology. If you’re wondering if these hurt, the answer is yes.

It cannot be said enough… your pets dental health should be a routine priority throughout their whole lives.

Although it looks like a cute little love heart 💚 it is actually a very sickly pet. Let’s talk about Pyometra in small dogs

Pyometra is a serious, life-threatening infection of the uterus that can happen to unspayed females. What makes it scary is that it often starts off looking harmless… much like this photo… maybe she’s just a little quieter, drinking more water than usual, or not eating like she normally does. But inside, her uterus could be filling with infection.

Small dogs are especially at risk because the signs can be easy to miss until it’s already an emergency. By the time you notice discharge, weakness, or vomiting, it can be very advanced and urgent surgery may be the only option to save her.

The good news? Pyometra is 100% preventable. Spaying your female dog not only protects her from this painful condition but also prevents certain cancers and unwanted litters.

If your girl is still unspayed and you’re unsure about the risks, chat to us asap. Protecting her now could save her life later.
