Read the parasite label🏷️

Same home does not mean same treatment

The flea product that suits your dog may be dangerous for your cat. 🐶🐈

Before the packet opens, check which animal it is for. Species, age, weight and the product's instructions all matter. Never use a dog-only flea or tick treatment on a cat, or divide a larger animal's dose unless your veterinarian has specifically instructed you to do so.

Treatment intervals differ between products, too. “We do it monthly” is only useful if that matches the product you are using. Keep the packaging and make a note of the next due date.

If your household has several pets, ask us to help you plan appropriate protection for each one. Bring the product names along so we can see exactly what you are using. 🧡

Top tip: Save a photograph of each pet's product label beside their treatment reminder.

🦷🐾 A HEALTHY MOUTH IS ABOUT MORE THAN FRESH BREATH

Our pets are remarkably good at hiding discomfort, and dental pain is no exception.

Plaque, tartar, gum inflammation and damaged teeth can develop gradually, sometimes without obvious changes in your pet's behaviour.
At Eldoraigne Animal Clinic, dental care forms an important part of preventative veterinary medicine.

Signs that your pet may need a dental examination include:

🐾 Red, swollen or bleeding gums
🐾 Difficulty chewing or dropping food
🐾 Excessive drooling
🐾 Loose, broken or discoloured teeth

Top Tip: Get your pet accustomed to regular toothbrushing using pet-safe toothpaste. Human toothpaste is not suitable for animals.

💧 The water bowl review 💧

Would you choose that water bowl?

The bowl beside the noisy appliance may be convenient for us. Your cat may disagree. 🐈

Fresh water deserves a good location. Try a quiet, accessible spot where your cat can drink without another pet blocking the way. Keep bowls clean and offer more than one water station if your home has several rooms or levels.

Some cats prefer a fountain; others are perfectly happy with a bowl. What matters is finding an arrangement they use and maintaining it. A fountain still needs regular cleaning.

If your cat suddenly drinks much more, urinates more or seems unwell, tell us. Moving the bowl is a useful household adjustment, but it cannot explain every change in thirst.

Top tip: Try one additional water bowl in a quiet spot and watch which location your cat chooses. 🧡

You know their normal

The person who knows their favourite sleeping spot often notices the first small change. 🧡

You know the sound of those paws coming down the passage. You know who arrives before the food bowl does, who supervises every cupboard opening and who prefers company from a very specific distance.

That everyday knowledge matters. A change in appetite, movement, sleep or sociability is worth mentioning, even when you cannot quite put your finger on it. You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis.

Tell us what is different, when it started and whether it is happening more often. Our Gentle Care Approach™ includes listening to the person who sees the pet at home, as well as examining the patient in front of us.

Top tip: Note one specific change and when you first noticed it; concrete examples are more useful than “not quite themselves”.

Sometimes, understanding what's happening inside your pet's body requires us to look a little deeper.

At Eldoraigne Animal Clinic, our radiology service helps our veterinary team investigate conditions involving bones, joints, the chest and abdomen.

What can X-rays help us investigate?

🐹 Little Squeaks, Big Hearts: Guinea Pig Care 101 🧡

With their adorable squeaks, curious noses and charming personalities, guinea pigs have a special way of stealing our hearts!

These gentle little companions may be small, but they have some pretty big needs when it comes to staying happy and healthy.

Guinea pigs are social animals that thrive on companionship, ideally with another compatible guinea pig. They need plenty of space to explore, soft bedding, cosy hiding spots and a diet rich in good-quality hay, fresh vegetables and specially formulated guinea pig pellets.

And here's something important, unlike many other small pets, guinea pigs cannot produce their own vitamin C! They need a reliable daily supply through their diet to stay healthy.

At Eldoraigne Animal Clinic, we believe every pet deserves gentle, attentive care, whether they greet you with a bark, a meow or an enthusiastic little squeak! 💛

Fun Fact: Guinea pigs make a wonderful range of sounds, including a high-pitched "wheek" when they're excited, especially when they hear their favourite human preparing food!

Top Tip: Unlimited fresh grass hay should make up most of your guinea pig's diet. It helps keep their digestive system moving and their continuously growing teeth naturally worn down.

Remember: If your guinea pig stops eating or producing droppings, contact a veterinarian urgently. These little animals can become seriously ill very quickly.
