A cruciate ligament injury is a common orthopedic problem, especially in active or large-breeds.
What is the Cruciate Ligament?
The cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) in dogs is similar to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in humans. It stabilizes the knee (stifle) joint by preventing the shin bone (tibia) from sliding forward relative to the thigh bone (femur). Signs of a Cruciate Ligament Injury:
• Sudden limping or lameness in a back leg
• Difficulty standing up or jumping
• Swelling around the knee
• Holding one leg off the ground
• “Toe-touching” lameness
• Causes:
• Sudden twisting injury while running or playing
• Degenerative changes over time
• Obesity increasing joint stress

Valdi's Surgery Journey 🐾
Valdi, a beautiful and energetic 45 kg Rottweiler girl, came to us with a torn cruciate ligament .. She underwent surgery to repair the ligament and is now beginning her recovery journey.
Before the procedure, Valdi was limping but still very active and full of life! 🐶💗 Now, for the next 6 weeks, it's very important that she stays calm — no running, jumping, or rough play. Controlled leash walks only, and plenty of rest, will help ensure her leg heals properly.
Sending lots of love to this strong girl as she recovers! 💪🐾
