Question of the week 🍇
Can my pet eat grapes?

Unfortunately No.
Grape and raisin toxicity occurs when a dog eats fruits from the Vitis genus. Ingestion can cause kidney damage in dogs. Because the toxic dose is unknown and individual dogs react differently, there’s no safe amount, even small ingestions can lead to serious illness. For that reason, any exposure to these fruits should be evaluated by a vet or call ASPCA Poison Control.

Symptoms: (can also appear a few days after ingestion)

Vomiting (most common)
Diarrhea
Loss of appetite
Dehydration
Abdominal distention or pain
Excessive drooling
Lethargy
Weakness, Trembling

Other common household items/plants pets should not ingest are:

Chocolate
Macadamia nuts
Garlic
Onions
Xylitol an artificial sweeteners
Sage Palms
Oleanders
Cats specifically, an part of a Lily plant

Question of the Week? How often should I brush my dog’s or cat’s teeth?

Daily is ideal or as often as one can, we know most pets have strong opinions about toothbrushes. Even wiping a pet‑specific toothpaste across the teeth (without a full “brush”) still helps reduce bacteria. A baby toothbrush or finger brush can make the process easier for sensitive pets, and flavored pet toothpaste can be introduced as a treat before working up to brushing.

If brushing isn’t an option, products like dental powders, water additives, and dental chews can still make a meaningful difference. Look for items with the VOHC seal, which confirms the product has proven dental benefits.

Dental care truly matters. Even when tartar isn’t visible, bacteria can hide under the gumline and travel through the bloodstream, affecting the heart, liver, and kidneys. Small, consistent steps go a long way in protecting your pet’s overall health.

For deeper care, we also provide full dental cleanings here. These cleanings remove plaque and tartar above and below the gumline areas brushing can’t always reach. If you’re interested, we’re happy to take a look at your pet and provide a personalized quote.

We carry a variety of VOHC‑approved dental products in‑clinic — mention this post for 5% off any dental item. If you have questions, give us a call at 520-469-7387
