🐒✨ Meet Timmy ✨🐒

Get ready for a cuteness overload — these close-up shots of Timmy, our Black Tufted Marmoset, are almost too adorable!

Timmy shares his space (and his snacks) with his best buddy Bianca, a Cotton-Top Tamarin. Despite being different species, these two primates have formed a special bond and love spending time together!

Fun Fact: Black Tufted Marmosets have specialized teeth that help them gnaw into tree bark to feed on tree sap and gum — a tasty treat in the wild!

Last week, we were thrilled to welcome the Wicomico Public Library - Mobile Services branch as they hosted a fun and engaging Story Time for local families right here at the zoo! Thank you for bringing your creativity and energy to Holly Circle it was a great way to connect the community through reading and wildlife!

🐾✨ Animal Encounters ✨🐾

Get ready for an unforgettable behind-the-scenes experience at the Salisbury Zoo! Our Animal Encounters give you the chance to meet some of our amazing residents up close, feed them and/or create their enrichment, and learn incredible facts straight from our expert animal care and education teams.

🌟 What to Expect:
You'll explore how we care for our animals, their unique behaviors, and the important conservation work happening right here at the zoo. Each encounter is small, personal, and packed with wild memories waiting to happen!

Current Available Encounters:
🦙 Alpaca – Thursdays & Saturdays @ 1:30pm
🦘 Wallaby – Thursdays & Saturdays @ 10:00am

Details:
🔹 $40 per person, per animal
🔹 6–8 participants max per session (NOT private unless all spots are booked)
🔹 Ages 6–16 must be accompanied by an adult
🔹 Waiver required for all participants
🔹 Rain or shine – dress for the weather & wear closed-toed shoes!
🔹 Must book at least 24 hours in advance

⚠️ Encounters are limited to select animals due to habitat and safety requirements.

🦆🎶 New Digs, Same Whistle! 🎶🦆

If you’ve ever heard a high-pitched wheee-wheee while walking through the zoo — chances are, you’ve met Scooter, our Whistling Duck!

Scooter recently packed his (imaginary) bags and moved from the lower Australian aviary with the black ibis to his new home in the upper aviary with the kookaburras.

He may have changed locations, but that distinct whistling call is still the same — and it’s how he got his name!

Next time you visit, keep your ears open and say hello to Scooter in his new spot!

TONIGHT!! Wild Nights Returns to the Salisbury Zoo.

Our Zoo Director will be giving a talk at 5:30pm at our Pavilion followed by a visit from one of our Ambassador Animals at 6:00pm.

Come take stroll around to see if you can catch a glimpse of some of our Nocturnal animals or peruse our Gift Shop for some of our new products.

We are also welcoming the teams participating in this week's USSSA Softball Tournament. See you tonight!

🌟Day Five of National Zookeeper Week 🌟

Today we’re giving a HUGE shoutout to the amazing zoo staff who keep the Salisbury Zoo running smoothly every single day!

This includes our grounds crew, maintenance team, guest services staff, interns, and volunteers — the often unsung heroes who keep things clean, safe, welcoming, and functioning behind the scenes and out in the open.

They handle:
💚 Landscaping and habitat upkeep
💙Repairs and improvements across the zoo
💚 Greeting and assisting guests
💙 Daily cleaning and care of public spaces
💚 Sharing knowledge and lending a helping hand wherever needed

We literally could not do what we do without this hardworking crew. They are the reason the zoo can open its gates every day and give guests an amazing experience.

To our entire support staff — thank you for everything you do to keep the Salisbury Zoo running strong!

🦩Day Four of National Zookeeper Week 🐢
Today we’re celebrating the incredible Senior Staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the Salisbury Zoo running strong!

This team includes our zoo curator, education curator, zoo director, veterinarian, and development supervisor — a group of dedicated professionals who make the big-picture decisions and handle the countless details that help our zoo grow and thrive.

They are responsible for:
🧩 Supporting and guiding staff across departments
📦 Coordinating animal acquisitions and transfers
🔧 Planning and implementing habitat upgrades and improvements
🎟️ Organizing events and community outreach
💡 Ensuring the zoo’s mission of education, conservation, and animal care stays at the heart of everything we do

Whether it’s behind a desk, in a meeting, or out in the field helping with animals, this team wears many hats — and we’re grateful for everything they do to keep the zoo moving forward.

Let’s give it up for our senior staff — the backbone of the Salisbury Zoo! 🙌
