A couple years ago, we got accused of sharing too much about our rescue efforts…what most people don’t know is the majority of what we do is never shared on social media. If we had time to do it, we know it may generate much more attention & be potentially more lucrative. But, we simply don’t have the time to do that, we’re busy taking care of babies & their mommies. (Long story ahead but worth the read, I promise….!!!)

Meet Mommy Yara! 🐈‍⬛

Her story is one of suffering, after having endured trauma that left her with several significant wounds.

At only approximately 6-7 months old, she’s still a baby herself. She was found when the finder’s dog discovered her in the corner of the garage, actively in labor aborting/delivering 3 premature kittens. Honestly, I don’t know how this mommy was still alive. She was severely dehydrated, emaciated, hypothermic, lethargic, in pain & didn’t even have the energy to groom her body post delivery. She had clearly lost her will to live.

I’ll be honest, when I saw the photos the finder sent me, I advised him to initially take her to urgent care for humane euthanasia. He’d planned on that, but when he dropped the babies off to me, I saw her & knew I couldn’t let that be her fate. 😢 (graphic photos in comments)

I scooped her up, brought her inside, started immediate urgent supportive care - subcutaneous fluids, supplements, a bath, treated & dressed wounds, worked slowly to raise her body temperature. Slowly syringe fed her & tucked her in a crate for the night. Luckily, one of our rescue vets was able to see her the following day. She was admitted & spent the next 3 days receiving inpatient intensive life saving critical care.

I was able to bring her home Monday night & while she has a long road to finish her recovery, she’s looking & feeling so much better. Her physical wounds are healing nicely, but her emotional wounds are going to take much longer. She’s very shy, and afraid….I’m waiting patiently waiting for that first purr when she gets her daily cuddles.

These are the sorts of stories we don’t share because the intensity of the care these mommies need requires our entire focus for a while. Did we have funds to help this mommy who needed this urgent medical care? No! We still have a huge vet bill from other kitties that have required vet care over the last few weeks. But her life matters. She didn’t ask to be a mommy at only 5-6 months old. She didn’t ask to be attacked or injured. Her story & stories like hers are precisely why we do what we do! It’s a labor of love….
