Super excited to introduce our North American Porcupines aka the Quill Pigs, Ryder & Ash!

After 3 years of searching we were finally able to pick up a pair of captive bred Porcupines to help us bring new life to Get Quilled!

Ryder & Ash are 2 months old and growing fast!
They are still being bottle fed, along with being introduced to solid foods.
So far their favorite snacks are cherries 🍒

We're super happy to welcome them to the family and can't wait to share them with you all at future avoidance classes!!

We are in search of a temporary location to hold somewhat regular sessions in the Reno area (1 - 2 classes/month thru September).

Location must be private property, have enough space for up to 7 cars at a time, natural shade would be amazing and access to a restroom for our crew.

We would be happy to either rent, share a percentage of each class or train your dogs at no cost (if you have any) in exhange for use of the space. Details can be discussed!

We aim to have a space of our own next year, but in the meantime a consistent space we can use to provide our services to Reno would be fantastic.

We will be scheduling more classes in the area very soon!

Verdi (Reno) & Dayton coming up are both FULL!
Please do not ask if we can squeeze one more dog in, as we currently have 15 "one more dog" on our waitlist.

As much as we would love to pack the classes and get as many pups through as we can, we won't compromise the quality of our training to do so but we will do our best to make sure there are opportunities throughout the summer and into the fall.

We are often asked what to do in the case of a snake bite to a person or a pup.
Let's talk about use of wraps, bandages, and recent updates!

Snakebite Myth Busted: Pressure Bandages for Rattlesnakes? Not so fast.

For years, first aid guidelines flip-flopped on whether pressure bandage immobilization (PBI) helps with rattlesnake bites in the U.S.

Spoiler: it doesn’t.

Here’s the deal:

PBI was designed for neurotoxic bites (like coral snakes in Australia).

Rattlesnakes? Their venom causes tissue destruction, not paralysis.

Studies showed PBI might worsen damage and the risk of death

Even trained pros rarely apply PBI correctly.

In 2024, the American Heart Association & Red Cross finally reversed course: PBI is not recommended for pit viper bites in the U.S.

Takeaway:
If someone gets bit by a rattlesnake, skip the pressure wrap. Keep them calm, limit movement, and get medical help as quickly as possible
Misinformation can do more harm than the bite!
