In Dutton’s lesson we worked on door manners because he just doesn’t know what to do with himself when people come to the door which can be intimidating if you didn’t know how friendly he was! Such a smart boy! In one lesson we talked about:

Breed appropriate outlets ✅
Proper Play ✅
How to change the meaning of what the door means ✅

Most training usually involves teaching your dog how to go to “place” but the problem I have with that is that you’re always stuck in management mode. Sometimes dogs do silly things because they have a lot going on in their head and giving them enrichment in their lives with exercise really helps us tackle problem behaviors at their core. A better relationship means more control around exciting things and a fun way to hang out with your dog too. 🐾

Quest earned his Rally Champion Title over the long weekend and what a run we had! Perfect score under Ms Geri Lopez @ Hangtown Kennel Club in Placerville. All of our hard work has paid off! My heart dog, Quinn, came along for the ride on my sweatshirt which made this moment extra special. Special thanks to my husband for always being there to support me in all things dog related. It was a blast showing with our dog sport friends all weekend long and watching their successes as well!

We had fun in Placerville this last weekend showing in AKC Rally Obedience! Quest is now a Rally Champion and he finished it exceeding my expectations 🤗 He absolutely loves to work and it showed in the ring every single run. We did 12 runs throughout the weekend and never once did he ever slow down. When I started this journey in Novice A, I had no idea how far we’d go. All of our hard work and dedication took us to the top! Life after Rally? We’ll most likely move on to Obedience and some other fun dog-sport-things but we will be doing Rally-O for fun from time to time. Thank you to everyone who cheered us on from afar, it means the world 🥰

One of my favorite things about teaching Rally is that people come in thinking they're just learning signs, courses, and how to navigate the sport but somewhere along the way, they become better handlers for their dogs.
Rally teaches timing. Awareness. Patience. Clear communication. It teaches you how your dog learns, where they struggle, and how to work with them instead of against them. The signs matter, of course but the real magic happens in the relationship that develops between dog and handler along the way. Watching these teams last night reminded me that Rally isn't just about perfect scores. It's about learning to move together as a team. 🐾

Rally is a lot of fun when you have lots of cones on the course! It really tests your handling abilities to control your dogs pace and moving with you as a team 🐶
