Puppies: "If not snack, why snack-shaped?"

One of the many talents puppies possess is their ability to put literally everything in their mouths. Leaves? Yum. Socks? Delicious. Rocks? Why not. 🙃

This little goofball recently decided to sample something that definitely wasn't on the approved puppy menu. After a not-so-fun tummy episode, we got a very clear answer as to what had been missing around the house. 😅

🔍 Any guesses what's hiding in this puppy's stomach? Drop your guesses below before you peek!

👇 Answer and photo will be in the comments.

⚠️ Trigger Warning: The answer photo contains puppy vomit and may be gross for some viewers. Proceed at your own risk! 🤢🐾

Reba injured her leg during one of our regular walks and began limping on the way home. It was clear she was in pain, so we contacted River Valley Vet Clinic right away. Getting an appointment on such short notice was quick and easy. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted and only waited a few minutes before being taken to an exam room.

The veterinary technician promptly took Reba’s vitals and medical history and explained that the doctor would be in shortly. After a thorough examination, the veterinarian suspected Reba had torn the CCL in her right leg. X-rays were taken and confirmed the diagnosis.

Because surgery was beyond our budget, the doctor recommended PRP therapy along with a series of laser treatments. The team carefully explained the treatment plan and scheduled the follow-up appointments right away.

Everything went very smoothly. The doctor also provided us with exercises to help Reba recover at home. Thanks to the care and support we received, Reba is now walking again and getting stronger every day.

We are incredibly grateful to the entire staff at River Valley Vet for their compassion, professionalism, and excellent care. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality veterinary care for their animals.

We are hoping to help identify a deceased cat that was found along Highway 13 between Subway and Tractor Supply.

He was a large male brown tabby cat, not neutered, estimated between 1-5 years old. Unfortunately, he did not have a microchip. He may have been a stray, but we want to make sure he doesn’t have a family missing him and wondering where he is.

If you believe this may be your cat or recognize him based on the description, please contact us directly. We know how difficult these situations are, and we would like to help provide closure to his family if possible 💔.

Thinking about bringing your dog to see us for the first time? 🐾 Come follow along with Larry’s trip to the vet and see what you can expect during your visit!

First things first — you’ll check in with our wonderful client service representatives and hang out in our lobby for a bit. Some pets even score treats and get the chance to show off their best tricks while they wait. 🦴✨

When it’s time for your appointment, you’ll head into an exam room where one of our technicians will take a detailed history and gather all the information needed to make sure we meet all of your pet’s needs during the visit.

A lot of our blood draws and treatments are done in our treatment area in the back, but if you or your pet would feel more comfortable staying in the exam room, that is completely okay — just let your technician know! We also have an open-door policy, so if you’d like to come back and see what’s going on, you are always welcome. It’s not some big scary place — we just know not everyone loves seeing needles and blood. 😉

Once we’ve gathered any samples we need, the technician gives your veterinarian a detailed summary before they come in to do a nose-to-tail exam and make sure everything is working exactly as it should.

And don’t worry — if your kids have questions, we are always happy to explain what we’re doing and why! 😂 In this video, one very important question was asked: “Why is the veterinarian touching Larry’s private parts?” The answer: she’s actually palpating his spleen to check for abnormalities, something especially important in Golden Retrievers, as they're prone to a specific cancer called hemangiosarcoma. Veterinary medicine is glamorous stuff, folks, but isn't it great we have experts who know exactly what to look for?! 🐶

Whether you’re new to the area and looking for a veterinarian, or you’ve been in Prior Lake forever and just want to see what we’re all about, feel free to stop in anytime. Our staff is always happy to give tours, answer questions, and help make both you and your pets feel comfortable. ❤️

🌼🐾 **Tis the season… for itchy pets!** 🐾🌼

Seasonal allergies are starting to flare up again for many dogs and cats. Catching allergies early and starting appropriate treatments *before* skin or ear infections develop can make a huge difference in your pet’s comfort.

Common signs of seasonal allergies include:
• Excessive licking or chewing at paws
• Scratching, rubbing, or biting at the skin
• Red, irritated skin or hot spots
• Head shaking and scratching
• Scooting or excessive licking around the rear end (no, it's not always full a**l glands)
• Watery eyes or sneezing (less common, but possible)
• Hair loss from constant itching

Helpful ways to manage allergies early include routine wiping and bathing to remove allergens from the coat, regular ear cleaning, and starting allergy medications as recommended by your veterinarian.

If your pet seems itchier than normal, don’t wait until an infection develops — early intervention is key to keeping them comfortable all season long! 🐶🐱💚

**What is Regenerative Medicine?**

Regenerative medicine is a type of treatment that helps the body heal itself naturally. In veterinary medicine, these therapies are designed to reduce pain, decrease inflammation, speed healing, and improve your pet’s quality of life using advanced, non-invasive techniques.

At River Valley Veterinary Service, we offer several regenerative medicine options to support healing and comfort for your pet:

✨ **Phovia (Fluorescent Light Therapy)**
Phovia uses a specialized fluorescent light to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process. It helps promote faster healing of wounds, skin infections, hot spots, and other dermatologic conditions while reducing inflammation and discomfort.

🔴 **Laser Therapy**
Therapeutic laser therapy uses light energy to pe*****te tissues and stimulate cell repair. This painless treatment helps reduce pain and inflammation, improve circulation, and accelerate healing for conditions such as arthritis, injuries, post-surgical recovery, and chronic pain.

🩸 **Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)**
PRP therapy uses healing components from your pet’s own blood to encourage tissue repair and regeneration. It can help support healing in joints, tendons, ligaments, and injuries while promoting faster recovery and improved comfort.

We are committed to staying current with the most advanced options in veterinary medicine so we can continue providing the best possible care. Ask us about any of these options for your pet!

**Real Results with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy**

One of our staff members, Kate, recently shared her dog Mazikeen's (Maze’s) journey—and it’s a powerful example of how PRP can improve quality of life.

Before treatment, Maze would tire easily and often held up her right front leg or limped after walks or playing fetch (her favorite activity). She also struggled with stairs and jumping. While medications like Carprofen provided some relief, the change after PRP was remarkable.

Within just a few days of her PRP injection, Maze showed a complete turnaround. She was no longer displaying signs of elbow pain and was able to comfortably enjoy walks, play fetch again, and move up and down stairs with ease.

Even better—the results lasted about **9 months** before any slowing down returned.

PRP therapy works by using your pet’s own healing properties to reduce pain and improve joint function—helping them get back to doing what they love most.

If your pet is struggling with joint pain or mobility issues, PRP may be worth exploring. Reach out to learn more! 🐶💙
