Around 6.5 million animals enter U.S. shelters every year. 🏡
Shelters are opening their doors this month to help change that number. If you have been thinking about adding a dog or cat to your family, August is a genuinely good time to go look. And once they are home, we're here to help them settle in healthy.

The Old Saying We’ve all heard the old saying, “If you lie down with dogs, you get fleas.” We take it to mean, of course, that if you associate with people who do questionable things, you’ll be guilty by association. Admonishments and platitudes aside, literal fleas can cause great distress ...

Cats are famously good at seeming fine.
That independence is part of what makes them wonderful companions and also why discomfort can go unnoticed.

Watch for subtle changes like:
✨ Grooming habits
🍽️ Appetite
❤️ Time spent with the family

An annual wellness exam helps catch small issues before they become bigger ones.

An Update About Our Communication Platform

Over the past month, we've been using Otto for appointment reminders, electronic forms, and text messaging. Whenever we make changes like this, our goal is simple: to make communicating with South Hyland Pet Hospital easier and more convenient for you.

After spending a great deal of time customizing the platform, working with Otto's support team, and listening to feedback from both our clients and our team, we've come to the conclusion that it just isn't the right fit for our hospital.

Because of that, we've decided to transition back to PetDesk.

First and foremost, thank you to everyone who shared your thoughts with us. Your feedback confirmed what our team was experiencing every day, and it played an important role in this decision.

We believe it's important to keep looking for ways to improve, even if that means trying something new. Sometimes a new solution works exactly as we'd hoped, and sometimes it doesn't. That's okay. We'd rather be willing to explore better options than avoid change altogether.

We also know that switching back means another adjustment for you, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding. Our current goal is to transition back to PetDesk around September 1, although that timeline is still being finalized.

During the transition, there will likely be a brief interruption in our text messaging service while our account is transferred back. As soon as we have a confirmed date and more details, we'll let everyone know.

Thank you for your patience, your honest feedback, and—most importantly—for continuing to trust us with your pets. We're always working to provide the level of care and communication you deserve, and we're grateful to have such an understanding community alongside us. ❤️🐾
