SPROUT NOLA Sustainable Produce Reaching Our Urban Table

We at SPROUT NOLA are urban farmers dedicated to helping Greater New Orleans access fresh, affordable, and tasty food through small scale vegetable production initiatives. SPROUT NOLA has recognized the lack of access to fresh healthy food experienced by many New Orleanians and we are dedicated to addressing this issue. We will achieve this through community engagement and outreach, partnerships w

ith local food vendors and food justice organizations, hands-on training programs, and advocacy. At our core we believe in empowerment through gardening and we encourage open, honest, dynamic dialogue to address the needs of our neighborhoods. We will work alongside our neighbors to create stronger more vibrant communities by supporting garden based activities that directly enhance nutrition, support health, provide economic benefit and support community interaction.

Hi, Hello! I am Erica Sage, Market and Aggregation Manager and Sprout's longest-running employee! I run our Truck Farm Table weekly at the Farmer's Market. We house up to 14 different farms and producers from New Orleans, Lafayette, Mississippi and anywhere in between! Synergy, collaborations, joint efforts, cooperatives and working together are my passion and purpose in agriculture. I own and operate my own farm Uptown and in the Lower Nine. I have special interest in micronutrients and wellness products created from naturally grown herbs and produce. You may have seen some of my children around the tables I work and I am extremely grateful for the grace and ability of having them grow up close to farming community. Come say, "Hi", I'd love to connect!

Hi hello! I’m Maggie, the Farmer Support Manager at Sprout. I spend my days working directly with agricultural producers, offering support and technical assistance as they build their businesses. Sometimes it’s just easier to have a buddy to bounce ideas off of and help find answers to questions that arise. I’m part of Bottomlands Agricultural Cooperative and have been a nursery producer for over a decade here, which means I’ve been navigating the ins and outs of land access, city regulations, southeast Louisiana seasonality, disaster preparedness and relief, cooperative development, soil health and fertility, food safety…the list goes, and I love to share what I’ve experienced in the hopes it can make your life easier. Feel free to ask me about Louisiana CRAFT (a statewide peer-to-peer learning network for agricultural producers), the New Orleans Growers Tool Lending Library, the Gulf South Heritage Seed Project, or how you can get technical assistance.

Before Sprout, I was a birth worker, which ultimately led me right to agriculture with a desire to grow nutrient dense veggies and culinary and medical herbs. I’ve been building my seed collection for years and love playing with flowers. But mostly I love my community and will woo you with plants if I get the chance! Happy to know you and excited to meet you!

Hey yall! I’m Nelson, Sprout's Farm & Facilities Manager and I loooove my job! Being a part of the community gardens is such a gift! I get to see folks’ confidence bloom in the gardens, and before we know it, they are teaching newcomers. I love sharing the joy and wonder with folks as they harvest their first-ever carrots or tomatoes. I live for sharing that joy with others!

Sprout’s Community Farm on the Lafitte Greenway began as a dream over a decade ago. I get to stand on the shoulders of those dreamers and see it take shape before my eyes. As fencing goes up and utility services get connected, I’m encouraged to dream as those have done before me. Dreams of feeding the neighborhood. Dreams of an outdoor pizza oven. Dreams of beehives. Dreams of intergenerational connections. Keep dreaming yall! It’s a radical act in the face of oppression.

Hey hey, Mina here! I'm the Community Food Director and I've been a part of Sprout for over four years. In my past life I was a chef but pivoting to food systems and agricultural work has been an absolute dream! Food and community is something so deeply woven into my soul. When I was a little kid all I wanted to do was feed people, whether it was friends, family, or strangers alike. Luckily I've gotten to that, with dinner parties and hosting probably being my best trait. When I'm not working, you can usually find me at my dining room table surrounded by plenty of food and a whole lot of love, or out in the garden. ☺️🌻

Hey yall!

My name is Terence Terrell Jackson, a fifth-generation farmer from Tuskegee, AL, and the Urban farmer program manager at Sprout. I live at the intersection of agriculture, history and art. I express this by merging different art forms, such as 3D printing, videography, gardening, and painting, using each as a tool for storytelling. My wife and I own the 9thward community farm, where the land is literally our canvas as we use it to produce amazing food. I dream of collaborating with artists across New Orleans to help people see and appreciate the world of agriculture through a variety of artistic mediums. By bringing together farming, visual arts, film, sculpture, music, and other creative forms, I hope to create experiences that deepen people's connection to the land and foster a greater respect for the work, beauty, and history of agriculture.
