Final tally for the cost of the entire Project:

All of the building materials (this is where the dumpster saved me thousands) largest components were windows and roof: $18,000

Solar installation (after tax rebates. Probably not the best economic decision, but something I felt was important): $15,600

Pre-construction permitting / drawings / engineer: $4,200

Contracted work (only contracted work other than the solar was pile driving for foundation and HVAC): $6,700

Getting permits pulled (hiring people to pull electrical plumbing and mechanic permits and do inspections): $2,400

Purchasing the land: $7,500

All other non-house construction (the shack, outdoor kitchen, etc): $0

Grand total: $54,400

I first got my building permit nearly 5 years ago. It's been a lot of work to get to this point, but I finally have my certificate of occupancy! I'm done dealing with the city! Here are some pics to celebrate.

Upstairs hickory flooring (leftovers from a job I did took care of about 80%, bought the rest), long leaf pine stairs (dumpster 2x6s), cedar closets (table saw cutoffs from a woodshop), bathroom floor (kiff's extras from years ago mixed with dumpster scores was just barely enough), toilet (side of the road), and cypress bathroom walls (previously Sunshine's ceiling on the tiny house before he decided he didn't like it and ripped it all out)

It's been a while since I've shared any updates. Most of the work has been on plumbing and electrical stuff, which isn't very photogenic. I just passed both plumbing and electrical inspections, and I'm about to be ready for my framing inspection. I'm pretty proud of those stairs!
