We’ll try not to get too emotional on a Friday night, but we can’t promise anything… we just love our volunteers 🤍

It’s about so much more than just having people to help us do the work. Our volunteers are the face of our organization.

They are some of the first faces these animals see after a long, unknown (and probably scary) journey. They are the faces that a family sees when they finally built up the courage to ask for help.

They’re the faces who sit outside the kennels of scared dogs for hours until the dog feels safe enough to take a treat from them. They’re the faces our community sees when coming into the pet food shelf for a little extra help that month.

They’re more than just the faces of our organization… they are our lifeline. They’re the backbone of who we are and what we do.

UPDATE: LUKE HAS BEEN FOUND AND RETURNED HOME SAFELY ❤

Thank you to everyone who has helped find our boy Luke. Thank you to our Lost Animals Support Team, The Retrievers, volunteers, and our community for searching endlessly to return him home 🫶

🚨 ALEXANDRIA, MN: LUKE IS MISSING AGAIN. WE NEED YOUR HELP 🚨

Our sweet, scared boy Luke is on the run again. We are actively working with the neighbors in the area he was found last, his fosters, and The Retrievers to find him.

Earlier this month, Luke spent 10 days on the run before he was finally found thanks to the tireless efforts of our Lost Animal Team, our friends at The Retrievers, and so many of you who shared sightings and refused to give up on him.

Now, we're asking for your help again.

Here's what you need to know:
🐾 Luke is an 8 year old, male yellow/golden Labrador Retriever mix with some white coloring
🐾 He's wearing a light blue collar and dragging a black leash
🐾 He was last reported missing near Kenwood Drive and Darling Avenue in Alexandria, MN

Please do not shout his name or chase him if you spot him. Luke is frightened and we don't want him to run further away. If you see Luke, call 952-373-1386 immediately. Share where and when you saw him and which direction he was traveling.

Thank you for your help. Let's bring Luke home again ❤

424 kittens. 424 lives. 424 new chances.

During the peak of kitten season, we hosted three separate kitten surrender events at our Minneapolis location. The reason? To help break the cycle before it can begin again by spaying and neutering kittens before they get adopted into homes.

Across those three events, we welcomed 424 kittens into our care from our community. Winky was one of them 🥹

Winky was surrendered with her siblings and as you can see, Winky appears to be missing an eye. When she joined us in August, she was too small to safely have surgery to remove her eye. So, our veterinary team waited to take a closer look during her spay surgery.

And that's when we got some GOOD news... Winky didn't actually need another surgery!

There was no visible eyeball to remove. The Ophthalmologist suspects a tiny, nonfunctional eye may be present, but it's not impacting Winky or causing any pain... meaning additional eye surgery isn't needed.

And because Winky didn't need another surgery, that meant that she was able to start looking for her home sooner. Except, she didn't have to look very hard... her foster decided that Winky was already home ❤

Winky is just one of the hundreds of lives that were impacted this year.

Now, imagine it 423 more times... as all of the kittens find their adoptive homes 🥹

424 lives were directly impacted. But the ripple effect? That reaches thousands of lives... humans and cats alike. Hundreds of these female kittens will never experience an unplanned pregnancy. They'll never contribute to another cycle of unplanned litters. They will never contribute to the overpopulation crisis.

This is what community centered care allows. Meeting people where they are with open hearts and minds allowed 424 lives to receive the care they needed. And now? Now, they are all working towards finding their homes (most already have 🥰)

Two months does wonders… do you remember Layla? She was found all alone at a loading dock at just two weeks old 🥺

She joined our rescue at the end of summer, where she was bottle fed every couple of hours by her wonderful foster.

This is Layla now 🥹

2.5 months old. Following her foster humans around. Eating normal food. Playing… with ALL the toys. No toy is too large for her to race through the house carrying.

She had a bit of an uncertain start. From being abandoned, to needing a weekend of tube feeding, to growing her confidence. And now?

Now, she’s looking for a home.

A home that will continue to grow her confidence. A home that will build trust with Layla… maybe through some frequent treats 😉

As for her humans? Layla is looking for the purrfect mix of cozy and fun. She will consider your lap as a nap zone to cuddle and a mountain to play on and around 😻

Halloween is full of treats, costumes, and excitement… but for our pets it can be scary.

Doorbells, unfamiliar faces (clowns?! No thanks 🤡), flashing lights and unknown sounds… it’s a lot.

But there are a few small things can make a BIG difference in helping your pets feel safe and comfortable:

🐾 Keep candy and treats out of reach (no matter how much they beg 😜)
🐾 Create a quiet space away from the trick-or-treating hustle
🐾 Make sure collars, tags, and microchip information are up to date
🐾 Choose comfort over costumes, and let your pet skip the dress-up if they'd rather not (even if you really want that instagram shot)
🐾 Keep pets safely inside and away from frequently opened doors
