Join us in celebrating our amazing vet assistant, Izzy, who just had her pinning ceremony at DCTC!🌟

Izzy has worked so hard to get to this point, and now she’s just one final away from officially graduating school on Monday (we KNOW she’s going to crush it 💪). Next up? Passing the VTNE in the spring to officially become a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)!

If you’ve ever had the privilege of meeting Izzy, you know her positivity and kindness are truly radiant. Her heart for animals is larger than life, and she inspires everyone around her.

Meet Brittany, Our Amazing Vet Assistant! ✨

Brittany is the heart and soul of our vet center, always bringing energy, compassion, and a whole lot of love to every pet she cares for! With a spunky personality and a deep passion for animals, she’s a key part of our team, making sure each patient receives the best care possible. 💖 Whether it's providing hands-on support during treatments or just giving a comforting pet, Brittany is always ready to go the extra mile.

Outside of work, Brittany’s home is a zoo (in the best way possible)! With 26 pets to care for, including 7 Chihuahuas, 8 cats, 5 hairless rats, 2 guinea pigs, and more, Brittany’s days are filled with the joy and chaos of her animal family. From cuddling with her adopted Sphynx cats to watching her rescued feral cat, Buck, come out of his shell, she’s always there for her pets with open arms and a huge heart. 🐾💕

Brittany’s love for animals doesn’t stop at her own pets—her enthusiasm for helping every animal who walks through our door is contagious. Her positive attitude and tireless work ethic make her an absolute gem, and we’re so grateful to have her on our team. 🩵

Meet Dr. Alyssa Gohr (DVM), our brilliant veterinarian who brings her expertise and passion to every pet she cares for! From routine checkups to complex medical cases, Dr. Gohr is always ready to make a difference in the lives of our furry friends. 💉🐕

Her favorite part of the job? Watching pets transform after treatment! Whether it’s treating sarcoptic mange, managing thyroid conditions, removing cancer, or even treating seasonal allergies, Dr. Gohr finds joy in seeing pets “act like a puppy again” after they’ve responded to care. There's nothing more rewarding than watching a sick pet regain their energy and joy. 🐾💖

The most challenging part? Managing chronic diseases that can deeply impact a pet's quality of life, without a cure. Along with this comes the behind-the-scenes work—recordkeeping and constant communication—that can be overwhelming but is essential to providing the best care. 📋

When Dr. Gohr isn’t at the clinic, she’s recharging with her nightly dog walks—a non-negotiable part of her day. Without it, she admits to feeling less efficient and more irritable, so this sacred routine keeps her grounded and ready for anything. 🚶‍♀️🐶

Meet Natalia, our amazing Care Coordinator who holds it all together at the front desk! She not only answers phones and manages all the administrative details but also makes sure every animal that passes through gets plenty of love and attention. 🧡

When she's not caring for the animals here, she has her own crew at home! Natalia has two kitties and one ball python. 🐍

Elby, her first cat, is more like a dog in spirit—he loves walks, toys, and meeting new people. His story is touching: Elby was brought into the emergency clinic where Natalia worked, emaciated and needing help. He instantly bonded with her, and she knew he was coming home with her the moment he nudged her for attention. 🖤

Kahleesi is a more classic cat—shy at first, but a loyal napper and sunbather. She survived frostbite, so she’s missing her tail and ear tips, but that doesn’t stop her from cuddling up with Natalia or hunting for spiders in the basement! 🤍

And then there's Mischief, her ball python. Mischief earned her name by slipping through the tiniest of openings when she first joined the family, but she’s since become a beloved "noodle" who loves curling around Natalia's shoulders while she plays video games. 🎮

In her free time, Natalia is a creative soul. When she's not at the clinic, she's animating, drawing, or crafting terrain for her Dungeons and Dragons campaign. 🎨🎲

Meet Diane, our Scheduling Coordinator, who works her magic every day to find appointments for our animals' spays, neuters, surgeries, check-ups, and so much more! This is the first vet clinic Diane has ever worked at, and she jokes that it’s the first place she's seen with a "diarrhea protocol"—which always makes her laugh! 😄

One of Diane’s favorite parts of the job is hearing about how stressed or shut-down foster animals come out of their shells. Another highlight? When fosters call her to say they've officially become foster fails! 💛

Diane’s day starts by walking her two black labs, Dante (4) and his 11-year-old mom, Stormy. It ends with spending quality time doting on her two Ragdoll cats—and in between, she’s on the phone with fosters making sure all our animals get the care they need.

Meet Kelsey, our incredible Foster Vet Care Manager, who joined our team seeking a career change and found her passion in connecting people and animals through the mission of saying YES. 🌟

In her time at The Bond Between, Kelsey has seen countless animals, but one that left a lasting mark was Von, a tiny pitty brought in by our Fighter Fund during her first weeks on the job. “Von was severely emaciated, suffering from pneumonia, and diagnosed with megaesophagus,” Kelsey remembers. “Our whole team rallied around him, but in the end, we had to let him pass in peace. I will never forget him.” 🤍

Recently, Kelsey became a foster fail with her long-term foster Woodstock. “He’s a special boy with special quirks, and we work through them together every day. I think he landed right where he was meant to be. We love him very much,” she shares. 🐾

Meet Blair Taylor, one of our amazing vet assistants whose care and passion for animals extend far beyond the clinic! 🌿

Blair has seen her fair share of unusual animal moments, but one that stands out is both hilarious and wild. “A foster dog swallowed a whole chipmunk, and we managed to get it to throw it back up—completely intact!” she recalls. “It lived in a jar at the clinic for a year!” Definitely one for the books. 😂

At home, Blair’s love for animals is evident. She has 4 cats, 5 chickens, and, every spring, she raises mallard ducks that she releases back into the wild. Her dream pets? “I’d get an emu to protect the flock on my hobby farm and a snow leopard because I’ve always loved big cats,” Blair shares.

When Blair isn’t at the clinic, she loves hiking, traveling, and spending time in her garden. Whether she’s tending to her plants or caring for animals, Blair is always connected to nature and the world around her. 🌸

Meet Izzy Brooks, one of our talented vet assistants who’s always there with a helping hand and a big heart for our furry patients. 🌟

Izzy’s journey into the world of veterinary care was inspired by a simple Google search during a tough time. “I’ve always loved animals but knew I didn’t want to be a Veterinarian,” she says. After being laid off during Covid, she googled “nurse for animals” and discovered the role of a vet tech. From there, she enrolled in school, started working as a receptionist at a vet clinic, and hasn’t looked back since!

When it comes to tasks in the clinic, Izzy thrives on the hands-on aspects of animal care. “I love drawing blood, placing catheters, and giving IV injections,” she shares—her passion for helping animals feel better shines through every day.

At home, Izzy’s two rescue pets keep her busy. Flynn, her 3-year-old black-and-white kitty, and Captain, an 8-month-old BB alum mixed breed, are her pride and joy. Outside of the clinic, you’ll often find Izzy hiking with Captain and her husband or spending sunny days on the lake.

From performing dental cleanings to assisting in surgery, Abbey ensures every furry friend gets top-notch care—and plenty of post-op snuggles! Abbey’s commitment to her patients (and their humans) is unmatched, and we couldn’t be more grateful for her expertise!

Meet Kayla! 💛
Kayla’s gentle touch and warm heart make her a beloved member of our team. Whether she’s giving the best cuddles to a post-op pup or managing her own fur family (which includes two dogs, Tucker and Zeyla, and two cats, Willow and Kaylee), Kayla’s care and compassion know no bounds. When asked what animals would say if they could talk, Kayla’s answer says it all: “I think they’d say us techs give the best cuddles!” 🥰

Meet Abby Vander Plaats, one of our incredibly talented Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT).💛

Abby has dedicated the last 10 years of her life to veterinary care, starting as a vet assistant during her bachelor’s degree and working her way up to becoming a CVT. Her love for animals was first discovered through volunteer work in animal shelters. “Volunteering helped me realize my passion for animal rescue,” Abby says, and that passion has fueled her journey ever since.

At The Bond Between, Abby not only provides top-notch medical care, but she also operates our foster emergency line, where she helps guide fosters through some of the toughest medical situations. “It can be very difficult to manage emergencies over the phone,” she shares, “but I’m thankful that I can be there to support our fosters when they need it most.”

When it comes to the emotional side of veterinary care, Abby finds comfort in treating every animal as if they were her own. “I care for every patient like they’re my own pet,” she explains. “That helps me know that I’m doing the best I can for them, no matter how tough the situation.” This empathy and dedication are at the core of who she is as a vet tech.

Abby particularly loves being involved in surgeries and anesthesia, with a special interest in advanced procedures like orthopedics. “Surgery is one of my favorite parts of the job,” she says. “I enjoy being part of those critical moments that can change an animal’s life for the better.”

When she’s not at work, Abby stays busy at home on her hobby farm, where she cares for a bustling crew of rescue animals. “We’ve got four rescue dogs, four rescue cats, 30+ chickens, and six ducks!” she says with a laugh. One of her dogs, Bubba (formerly Alf), is a special SHH/BB Fighter Fund alum who holds a special place in her heart.

This week we're spotlighting our amazing Vet Center team!

To kick things off, meet Maggie Libman, CVT, one of the heartbeats of our vet team.🤍

Maggie brings incredible skill and compassion to her work, making a difference every day for both animals and their families. When asked how she navigates the emotional rollercoaster of veterinary care, she’s candid: “A good therapist helps... but honestly, it’s about balancing the ups and downs. We snuggle adorable puppies one minute and comfort a family saying goodbye the next. Knowing we’re alleviating suffering makes it all worth it. And having a supportive team makes it easier.”

Maggie’s love for animals goes back to childhood, but her veterinary journey truly began as a vet assistant in a small animal practice during tech school. She graduated as a Certified Veterinary Technician in 2010 and has been a driving force in the field ever since.

Her path to our vet center started with a friendship. “Rachel, our Executive Director, used to joke that when she opened a vet clinic, I’d be her first hire.” That joke turned into reality when Maggie joined us in October 2018. Over the past six years, she’s been instrumental in helping our vet center grow, serving countless animals along the way.

Maggie, your dedication and heart are what make our vet team truly exceptional. Thank you for all you do, and for being the compassionate, steady presence that both your team and patients rely on every day. We’re so grateful for you!❤️
