Meet Halloumi!🐾🐈

Who? That’s right, Halloumi! This little orange cheese ball is named after the fancy Mediterranean cheese. His older brother is Colby Jack…anyone detect a theme? We got to meet this spunky new addition recently, and had fun playing with him after we did his exam and gave him a couple of vaccines. He sure loves to chase and pounce on his wand toy with its string of what looks like flaming hot cheese balls! 😂 Isn’t he adorable? 🥰

These boys are the sweetest, most friendly pair of kitties, and they were totally chill during our visit, hanging out right next to us and flopping down on our stuff, lol!😆 They are super photogenic, too! Their new owners kept their original names when they adopted them from a rescue

CUTE KITTY ALERT! 🚨🐈🐾🔔‼️

Meet this sweet and adorable duo, Layla and Fay! They are really biological siblings and they were adopted together by one of our clients who was only planning on only getting one, but found they couldn’t leave the other behind. Both girls have soft hair with such beautiful markings, and even though they’re shy at first, they warmed up to us quickly with treats! Check them out!

Meet Joaquin Taco, an 8-year-old Russian Tortoise! We recently did a yearly exam on this friendly little guy, and wanted to share some fun facts about tortoises with you, along with the cute photos!

Did you know that:
1. Russian tortoises have a long lifespan and can life up to 100 years!
2. They are herbivores and eat weeds, leaves, and flowers.
3. Their shells are made of scutes, which are hard scales made of keratin, the same material that human fingernails are made of!
4. They are one of the few species of tortoise to have four claws on each foot, instead of five.
5. They smell with their throats using their vomeronasal organ, also known as the Jacobson’s organ!
6. They are one of the smallest species of tortoises, measuring between 5-10 inches fully grown!
7. A group of tortoises is known as a “creep.”
8. They have both an exoskeleton as well as an endoskeleton. Their shell is made of three main parts: the carapace on the top, the plastron on the bottom, and the bridge that joins both pieces together. Every tortoise has ribs, a spine, and a collarbone inside its shell!

Hey, everybody! Check out this brave guy and his new, healthy smile!

We recently had Solly on our mobile surgery suite truck for a dental cleaning and just wanted to share his photos, because he’s so adorably photogenic! He had some tartar and gingivitis and his mom and dad wanted to make sure he got his teeth cleaned to prevent issues with his dental health in the future. Look at those pearly whites in his after picture!

Good afternoon, BHV friends! We have a holiday coming up in a few days that we celebrate with flowers and candy❤️. It’s important to be mindful of our pets when we bring new plants into the house and to keep any treats out of their reach. Here’s a post from AERC that we thought we should share because no one wants to spend the holiday in the emergency clinic!

Recently, we had these 2 handsome kitties, Freyr and his litter mate Uller, on the truck for dentals. We forgot to get before and after pictures of both of their mouths, but we did take photos of Freyr’s teeth prior to his cleaning and again after, and you can really see the difference it makes!

Dental health is so important and really makes a difference to a pet’s wellbeing. We recommend brushing your pet’s teeth daily, with a soft-bristled toothbrush or finger brush, but know this isn’t practical for many people and/or their animals. A professional dental cleaning, like what we can do on the truck, involves the pet being anesthetized, having full-mouth x-rays to spot any hidden problems below the gumline, followed by ultrasonic scaling and polishing of the teeth, and any extractions if needed. Bloodwork is required prior to anesthesia, to ensure the animal is healthy enough to undergo a procedure. During the procedure they are with us for a few hours on the truck, which is parked right outside of your house! After a dental, pets are usually back to normal by the very next day and, especially if they had bad dental disease, you can see quickly how much better a professional procedure can make them feel!
