πŸŽ‰πŸ± Please join us in welcoming Dr. Christina Larsen Kittrell to the Cat Clinic of Lafayette family! πŸ±πŸŽ‰

Dr. Christina is a Louisiana native who has dedicated her entire veterinary career to feline medicine. After earning her DVM from Tuskegee University and spending more than a decade practicing exclusively with cats in Michigan, she is excited to return home to Louisiana and serve the cats and cat lovers of Acadiana.

Her professional interests include feline internal medicine, behavior, and ultrasound, and she is passionate about helping cats live healthier, happier lives while building lasting relationships with their families.

When she's not at the clinic, Dr. Christina enjoys spending time with her husband and son, attending cat shows, crafting, and spoiling her two cats, Barnaby and Charlie. Swipe to see Barnaby looking very cozy in his sweater, crocheted by Dr. Christina! 😻

We're thrilled to have her on our team and can't wait for you and your cats to meet her! πŸ’œ

Today is National Pet Choking Prevention Day. 🐾

Cats are curious by nature, which means everyday household items can sometimes become unexpected hazards. String, ribbon toys, rubber bands, hair ties, plastic bags, and small objects are among the most common choking risks for cats.

Take a few minutes today to cat-proof your home:
🐱 Put away strings, ribbons, and hair ties
🐱 Supervise play with wand and fishing-pole toys
🐱 Store plastic bags out of reach
🐱 Check toys regularly for loose or damaged parts

If you think your cat may be choking, stay as calm as possible and look for signs such as gagging, excessive drooling, pawing at the mouth, difficulty breathing, or blue-tinged gums. If it is safe to do so, carefully check their mouth for a visible obstruction and seek emergency veterinary care immediately.

A little prevention can go a long way in keeping your feline family members safe. πŸ’™

🌟 We made the news! 🌟

Did you catch us on KLFY News 10? Our team recently spoke about "bobcat fever" (cytauxzoonosis), a serious and potentially deadly tick-borne disease that affects cats.

As temperatures rise and ticks become more active, it's important for cat owners to be aware of the risks. Cats infected with bobcat fever may show signs such as lethargy, loss of appetite, fever, difficulty breathing, or jaundice. Because the disease can progress quickly, early recognition and treatment are critical.

The good news? Year-round tick prevention and routine veterinary care can help protect your feline family members. πŸ±πŸ’™

Frida heard the World Cup is underway and decided it was time to start practicing. ⚽🐱

Scouts are already impressed with her ball control... and her ability to ignore all coaching advice.

🐾 Why do cats scratch? 🐾

Scratching is a normal, healthy behavior that helps cats maintain their nails, stretch their muscles, and communicate with other cats.

To help your cat (and protect your furniture!):
βœ”οΈ Provide sturdy scratching posts or pads
βœ”οΈ Place scratchers near favorite resting spots
βœ”οΈ Keep nails trimmed regularly
βœ”οΈ Reward appropriate scratching

With the right setup, most cats can learn where it's okay to scratch, making life easier for everyone! ❀️🐱
