Acadiana, here’s your chance to give BIG this holiday season, without stretching your budget. By donating cat or dog food, you’ll not only help families who are struggling right now, but you’ll also make a meaningful impact by:

🐾 Keeping pets with the families who love them
🐾 Reducing the number of animals surrendered to municipal shelters and local welfare organizations

A small donation makes a big difference. Thank you for helping keep pets safe, loved, and home for the holidays!

And just like that, Buddy was trapped.

He was first spotted in early August under the watchful eye of a few Good Samaritans. He wouldn’t let anyone approach, and it quickly became clear the coulee had become his home base. Neighbors set up a feeding schedule and kept watch, but even after four long months, his guard never dropped.

They turned to their neighborhood page for help and within a week, more people joined in, a plan came together, and Buddy was safely trapped. He was also fully vetted, finally getting the care he had gone without for so long.

And just like that, he started acting like a normal dog.

Because of compassion, teamwork, good neighbors, Mickey’s Legacy, and Mug-Z-Moo, there’s now one less dog living alone in a coulee. And today, on our day off we’re especially grateful and truly understand the meaning of Thanksgiving!

“One of my neighbors feeds outside cats and doesn’t want to fix them. Can you help me help them?”

And just like that, a plan came together.

With support from Mickey’s Legacy, Mug-Z-Moo, a compassionate Medical Team and neighbor who refused to look the other way, 24 community cats have now been successfully TNVR’d.

Among them was a cat suffering from a long-standing, unrepairable eye injury. Getting trapped turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to her. Instead of continuing to struggle, she received medical attention and is now living a safe, pain-free life—finally able to just be a cat again.

We are incredibly grateful that this neighbor chose to do something instead of nothing.
Those choices are how lives—both feline and human—change for the better.

The demand for spay/neuter is so high when we have an opportunity, we seize it! 🩷Thank you to Dr. Heather, Asia, Chloe, Kristen, and all the amazing trappers for dedicating your time to help these two colonies. We may not have gotten every cat just yet, but we’re off to a strong start!

51 community cats trapped, neutered, vaccinated, and now on their way back home!

These events wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of Mug-Z-Moo, who wholeheartedly believe in our mission. And a huge shoutout to Petco Love vaccines truly save lives!

Update: Lafayette Parish Voters ✅ said YES!!!
🗳️ Vote Saturday, Nov. 15 — Public Health & Safety Millage

A NO vote will be a TRAGIC loss for animals and for the people who have dedicated their lives to protecting them.

By protecting animals, Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center also protects our community from zoonotic diseases like rabies. Programs like Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) and the annual FREE rabies clinic in partnership with Wild Cat Foundation are vital public services. The more animals vaccinated, the lower the risk of a rabies outbreak.

When arrests are made in animal abuse or hoarding cases, it doesn’t just save animals — it can also prevent future violent crimes.

Research shows that people who abuse animals are roughly five times more likely to commit violent crimes against humans than those who do not.

While our surgical team wraps up the last of 72 surgeries today, an experienced trapper stopped by to drop off her community cats and lend a hand to Wild Cat Foundation.

Don’t let that cute face fool you—this little guy has been soaking up snuggles and getting some socialization while our trapper friend tackles much-needed work. Normally, we wouldn’t socialize community kittens, but since he was too small for surgery… well, what the heck!

Every patient teaches us something new!

We met a very special patient who came in for a routine surgery and we discovered something quite rare! Our team identified that this sweet pup was intersex, meaning they were born with characteristics of both male and female anatomy. Intersex conditions occur in dogs, cats, and other mammals, though they’re rare estimated at less than 0.1% of the population. Most cases are found incidentally during neutering/spaying surgeries.

Our veterinarians performed a thorough exam and ensured our patient received the best care possible. The pup presented as a female with external OS cl****is. During spay internal ovotestes (ovaries with appearance of testicles) were present.

We’re happy to report she recovered beautifully and will live a normal, happy life! 💛

Veterinary medicine is full of surprises, and we’re always learning. Each case helps us better understand the amazing diversity of life.

Update: Lafayette Parish Voters ✅ said YES!!!
On November 15th, a YES vote for the 2025 Lafayette Parish Millage Renewals helps Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center (LASCC) continue their lifesaving work!

A “YES” vote ensures:
✅ The shelter remains No-Kill.
✅ High adoption and return-to-owner success rates.
✅ Spay/neuter and disease control resources.
✅ Dedicated Animal Control Officers serving the community and so much more.
✅A yes vote will NOT increase YOUR taxes.

Recently, someone abandoned their pet in a business parking lot. Employees there, cared for the frightened cat and eventually asked for help. LASCC and Wild Cat Foundation stepped in. Using their resources the cat was safely trapped, spayed, vaccinated, and transferred to WCF because……. she was a love bug and deserved so much more.

A YES vote keeps stories like hers possible and Lafayette’s NO-Kill mission alive!

We absolutely love our clients — especially the ones who go the extra mile!

One of our favorite cat trappers was doing a good deed for her neighbor by transporting their dog for its surgery appointment. When I greeted her, I asked what was in the box she was carrying and she showed me the tiny neonatal kitten she’d found abandoned in a parking lot! She was traveling with him so he wouldn’t miss his scheduled feeding.

That very same morning, Ms. Kitty’s mom made sure she didn’t miss her spay appointment either. She and Ms. Kitty arrived by Lyft then she rode home on her scooter.

Please send some extra love to both of these determined animal lovers and their furry friends!
