After three long years, Scrappy and his person, Shawna, were finally reunited. Shawna, an Animal Control Officer for St. Tammany Parish, adopted Scrappy in 2021. When he vanished, she did everything possible to find him—but every lead failed. All she had left was hope.

Then, at a local business, Melanie was checking traps when a thin but friendly pocket bully appeared at her side. After helping himself to the trap bait, he jumped into her car—like he knew he was finally going home. Melanie brought him to be scanned for a microchip, and there it was—the key to Scrappy’s return. Without hesitation, Shawna drove 146 miles to see him once again and bring him home.

Microchips save lives. They turn lost pets into found ones. In fact, pets with microchips are three times more likely to be reunited with their families than those without. If your pet isn’t microchipped, consider doing it today—it could mean the difference between lost forever and home again.

Imagine finding a box of abandoned neonatal kittens at the door just as you're leaving your shift at a CLOSED for the weekend spay/neuter clinic. That's what happened to Mary. It's a panic inducing situation - finding such fragile babies left by someone who could commit such an act. What if she had not been there? Those babies might have cooked to death in the glare and heat of the sun, or starved or suffered some other horrible end. There aren't endless volunteers or funds to take care of all of the babies that come about due to avoiding the easiest and most effective preventative, SPAY/NEUTER.

This unexpected situation is a stark reminder of why prevention matters. In May alone, 726 spay/neuter surgeries were performed, with many requiring additional medical surgeries and procedures ranging from Pyometra, hernia, enucleation to wound care treatments and 35% of our clients needed financial assistance, and we were there to help.

There are three spay/neuter clinics in our region, all working tirelessly to reduce the number of unwanted litters. Magnolia Spay Neuter Acadiana Spay Neuter While we may not know their exact surgical numbers, we do know they’re giving it their all—just like us.
If you don’t want an unexpected litter, remember: prevention is key. Spay/neuter saves lives. Please donate to help these non-shelter organizations take care of what others will not.

Behind the Scenes of Yesterday’s Spay/Neuter Event
What you didn’t see:
🐾 Our team prepared for 45 trapped cats to arrive for surgery.
🐾 We opened the clinic on a closure day, with staff working on their day off.
🐾 The number of female cats trapped was much higher than expected.
🐾 We coordinated in advance with the Crowley team to ensure they had the tools they needed.
🐾 52 cats and kittens entered our doors—5 neonatal kittens and 4 adults required extra care.🐾 47 surgical packs were used, cleaned, and remade.
🐾 30 humane traps were sent out to support this effort.
These lifesaving events are only possible because of a compassionate and skilled team. Support low-cost spay/neuter clinics and trap-neuter-return programs—they take time, resources, and funding to be successful.
Your support makes all the difference.

Most college students enjoy a slow start to their Saturday mornings, but the UL Lafayette AmeriCorps team was up and ready to make a difference! They spent their morning repainting our parking lot, ensuring clear, safe parking for everyone, including designated ADA-accessible spaces.

Thanks to their hard work, our facility is now a little safer and more welcoming. AmeriCorps embodies the spirit of service, instilling strong values while pursuing education. We’re incredibly grateful for their time and dedication - thank you, AmeriCorps!

💜 Thank you Stand Up For Pits Foundation, Inc!

You never know what not spaying is hiding. Scary things like a huge tumor sitting on an o***y. 😱 It may or may not be cancerous. In any case, a biopsy of such a tumor would be needed to determine what is going on. Then, there’s a condition, like Pyometra, that affects the uterus of both dogs and cats that can be deadly. Thanks to Stand Up For Pits Foundation, Inc, Angel Day for providing free spay/neuter, vaccinations, pain medication and an e-collar to these beautiful, smiling male and female pittie faces.
