🐾 NEW WORLD SCREWWORM: WHAT PET OWNERS SHOULD KNOW 🐾
Recent news reports have highlighted cases of New World Screwworm (NWS) in the southwestern United States. While NWS has NOT been detected in Alabama, awareness is important.
New World Screwworm is a parasitic fly whose larvae can invade living tissue, causing painful and serious wounds in dogs, cats, livestock, and wildlife.
⚠️ Contact your veterinarian if your pet has:
• A wound that won’t heal
• A wound that is getting larger
• A foul odor from a wound
• Visible maggots
• Excessive licking or discomfort
