Mushroom season is here - and that means extra caution for pet parents. 🍄🐾

Many wild mushrooms are toxic to dogs and cats, and it’s not always easy to tell which are dangerous. Ingestion can lead to serious symptoms like vomiting, seizures, or even organ failure.

Here’s how to keep your pet safe:
Remove mushrooms from your yard as soon as you see them
Keep pets leashed during walks or outdoor play in wooded areas
If you suspect your pet ate a mushroom, seek veterinary care immediately

Attention Jefferson County Pet Parents!🚨

If you spot small, green, fishy-smelling packets or square blocks around your yard or neighborhood — don’t panic! These are oral rabies vaccine baits dropped by the USDA to help protect local wildlife (and our pets!) from rabies.

What to do if you find one:
• Leave it where it is if possible so wildlife can find it!
• If it’s near play areas or where your pet hangs out, use gloves or a shovel to gently toss it into nearby woods.
• If your pet picks one up, don’t pull it away — just keep an eye out for any tummy troubles and wash your hands if the liquid touches your skin.

Rabies is serious, but prevention efforts like this help keep our furry friends and communities safe.🐾
