Another busy day working as Veterinarian in my faviorite Bahama Blue scrubs! 💙

☀️ This July summer is flying by with full schedules: a handsome Boxer Dog post-neuter, important conversations with clients about heart disease in their beloved dogs, an elderly cat getting care for kidney disease, and even a tiny stray kitten making an appearance!

Meet “Yogi” the sweetest and biggest boy! 🤍🩶🤍 Yogi has been my patient since he was 8 weeks old and his owner has done the best job making him friendly. I never like to promote the Pitbull breed because they are one of the strongest and sadly trained to be most aggressive dogs.

🏡 Most neighborhoods and apartments don’t allow them and unfortunately most owners don’t take this breeds strength serious and they end up surrendered in shelters.

If you get this breed, do your research.
Yogi’s owner takes him on 5 short walks a day and works from home!

It is what it is. ~ But Yogi breaks the stereotype!!!

Did you know we have a pool at the Vet Hospital for doggie daycare where I work! The dogs have a blast getting to swim, cannon ball in and cool off as they play. How fun is that!??

Are Veterinarians taught dog breeds❓Yes and No!

🧑‍⚕️ We are not required to take a course on every single animal breed. (Which I would enjoy!) ☝️However, Veterinarians are only taught the important species specific breed health predispositions to help veterinarians quickly identify illnesses common in certain pets.

For example: Persian cats are prone to Polycystic Kidney disease and Cavalier King Charles spaniels are prone to Mitral Valve heart disease. Another fun one is the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Dog is prone to Addison’s Disease!

🧡In this photo I am holing an adorable puppy! This breed may be prone to eye diseases!

👨🏻‍⚕️ Having the knowledge of species breeds helps veterinarians look closer at a certain breed, discuss behavior and temperament, certain known genetic health conditions, and dietary needs.
