Confirmed U.S. cases of New World screwworm are a wake-up call for every pet owner and veterinary professional. The time to prepare is BEFORE an outbreak reaches your doorstep.

This flesh‑eating parasite targets open wounds, and even a small cut that seems “no big deal” can become dangerous if larvae are present. Watch for wounds that won’t heal, foul odor or unusual discharge, excessive licking or biting at one spot, or sudden lethargy and loss of appetite these are all red flags that need a veterinarian’s eyes right away.

If you notice any of these signs, don’t try to clean or treat it on your own. Early veterinary care is the safest, quickest way to protect your pet’s comfort, prevent complications, and help stop the spread of screwworm in our community.

We’re here to examine suspicious wounds, provide rapid treatment, and guide you on how to keep your pets protected.

Little puppies don’t know their limits yet, and their tiny legs pay the price.

Young dogs are wiggly, squirmy, and often in someone’s arms or at the end of a long leash, which makes front‑leg fractures one of the most common injuries we see in small pups. Just like toddlers fall off playground equipment, puppies can get seriously hurt from being dropped, jumping out of arms, or getting a leg caught when they’re running.

Keep a close, steady hold when you’re carrying them, avoid long or retractable leashes in busy areas, and never let them leap from high surfaces. A little extra caution now can prevent a painful fracture and a long recovery later. 🐶💙

Grief after losing a pet is not something you “get over” – it’s something you learn to carry.

If you’re hurting, it doesn’t mean you loved them “too much.” It means the bond you shared was real, deep, and worth grieving. Wanting one more day, replaying the goodbye, feeling guilty, or missing them years later are all completely normal parts of this kind of loss. There is no right timeline and no perfect way to do this.

You gave them a lifetime of love and, for many, a peaceful goodbye when they needed you most. That is an act of courage, not failure. Be as kind to yourself as you were to them.

Your cat deserves a vet visit that feels more like a cozy retreat than a stressful chore. 🐾🩵

In the wild, cats seek out calm, quiet spaces where they feel safe, and that instinct doesn’t disappear at the vet’s office. Our new Cat Room was designed with your feline friend in mind: a peaceful, cat-only space that helps reduce stress from check-in to check-out, so exams are gentler, handling is easier, and visits are more comfortable for everyone. When your cat is relaxed, we can focus on what matters most: providing thorough, high-quality care to keep them happy and healthy.

If you have a nervous or easily stressed kitty, this room was made just for them. From a cat-friendly environment and low-noise setting to elevated perches and comfy resting spots, every detail helps your cat feel more at ease during their visit. Better for them, easier for you, that’s our promise.

POV: I’m at the vet and my favorite human walks right past me…

Tortoises really are in a league of their own. 🐢

In this video, we’re answering: “Who lives longer—a turtle, tortoise, or bearded dragon?” Bearded dragons typically live around 10–15 years in captivity, while many turtles and tortoises can far outlive us, depending on the species. In fact, the current record-holder for oldest known land animal is Jonathan the tortoise, who is an incredible 193 years old.

It’s a fun reminder that different species (and even different individuals) age very differently, and that committing to an exotic pet often means planning for many, many years of care. 🩵

“Common” doesn’t mean “normal.” 🩺

Heart disease in certain breeds, kidney disease in older pets, diarrhea, ear infections, eye infections, yes, we see them all the time. But even if a problem is common, it’s still an abnormal sign that something in your pet’s body needs attention. When mild issues are caught early, they’re often quick, easy, and far less costly to treat.

In older or more fragile pets, multiple “little” problems can add up fast and become life‑threatening if we wait too long. If something feels off, no matter how common it sounds, have it checked while it’s still a small problem, not a big one. Your pet’s future self will thank you. 🩵
