Betty’s mom recently sent Dr. Hack a message about her dog’s ninth birthday, and it reminded us why an ordinary day with a beloved pet can be anything but ordinary.

Betty turned nine on October 15. Her mom calls her “our very own girl with nine lives,” and after everything Betty has faced, we understand why.

At four, she was diagnosed with IMHA and ITP, two serious blood disorders. At six, her gallbladder ruptured. At seven, a squamous cell carcinoma was discovered beneath her tongue during a routine dental procedure.

Each chapter brought difficult decisions and uncertainty, but also people coming together to give Betty another chance: our Boca Vet team, critical care professionals, her surgeon, and her radiation oncologist.

Today, Betty is celebrating two years cancer-free. She spends her days carrying her ball and soaking up the sunshine, and her mom’s words say it best: “You have given us more time, more memories, more sunshine-filled days, and more moments of pure joy than we ever thought possible.”

Thank you to Betty’s family for trusting us with her care. It is a privilege to be part of Betty’s story, and we are so grateful she gets to keep writing it.
