It’s crunch time!!! 🚨

Our rescue centre has been sold, our lease expires in 65 days & we have no place to go!

We have been searching high & low for another property to lease but we have had zero luck & time is fast running out.

We currently lease an 820sqm concrete sealed section in industrial Woolston with a small garage & office. This costs us $3900 per month to lease. While ideally we want to grow in size, in these uncertain times we have to be realistic. Donations are down by more than $40,000 in the past year so a lease of this size is not going to be sustainable.

Christchurch is a small place. We all know someone who knows someone. So we are calling in all favours & putting this alert out to anyone & everyone. If you have never shared one of our posts before, please make this the first!

Calling all estate agents, real estate tycoons, & land bankers. Everyone’s whose brother or sister is into property. Your rich uncle Arthur who likes dogs, the mayor, King Chuck? SPREAD the WORD! Please help us find somewhere suitable to go.

CBBR has always been the shelter a community built & now we need your help to build another one. Shutting up shop is not an option. The dogs need us! ❤️

Great news! Takurua Vets is open over Easter.

Whether your pet got into the chocolate stash, hurt a paw at the park, or just isn’t doing well, we’re here to help with calm, low-stress care.

Open 9am to 4pm daily over Easter, with on-call availability after hours. Public holiday and after-hours surcharges apply.

2025 has been an incredible year at Takurua Vets.

We’ve had the privilege of caring for thousands of animals, welcoming new families through our doors every week, and watching this clinic grow into a place people genuinely trust with what matters most to them.

Thank you to every client who chose us, every pet who became part of our day, and our team who shows up with heart and skill every day.

Here’s to everything we’ve built together this year, and to helping many more animals in 2026.

Sweet Pebbles spent a few precious weeks with us at Takurua Boarding Cattery & we made every moment count.
At just 14 weeks old, this brave little explorer was learning about the world, so we used her stay to gently train and desensitise her to her carrier - turning it from a scary box into her safe space.
At Takurua, every pet is part of our story, and we take pride in helping them thrive, wherever they are in their journey.

While this week was Vet Nurse awareness week, I choose to appreciate and celebrate our incredible team of nurses every day!
They truly are the backbone of this industry and the heart of Takurua Vets - us Vets would be kind of lost without you guys! (Literally - how often do you have to help me find things that are right in front of my eyes??)

You’re the friendly faces our clients see when they walk through the door, the comforting hand on an owner’s back after having to say goodbye to a loving pet.
You advocate for our patients and I can always trust that they are well cared for!
You clean up after messy patients (and Vets).
We’ve fought together so many times to save lives and brought pets back from the brink of death.
Katy, Jams you guys have built this place with me from the start and it wouldn’t be what it is without you. Rosie, Jess we’re so happy to have you guys join us recently and you’ve both just slotted right into the team. It’s incredible to see you all give your best every day and I love working with you all!
