Patient of the Week!

Jack a very special dachshund was brought in two weeks ago with hemiparesis, weakness on one side of his body resulting in the inability to walk or toilet by himself. After some diagnostics it was determined he had IVDD (cervical intervertebral disc disease). This affects our short-legged/long back friends such as dachshunds. We're happy to report that he has made an almost full recovery with some intensive physical rehabilitation!

It was graduation week at Wigram Vet for two of our cruciate patients: Luca the lab and Renka the spitz! Both dogs had ruptured their cranial cruciate ligaments (ACL). Luca had a tibial plateau levelling osteotomy (TPLO) and Renka had a lateral suture procedure. Both patients were enrolled in weekly rehabilitation sessions for 10 weeks following surgery to help speed recovery and build muscle mass. We are happy to report that both dogs have graduated from rehabilitation and are back to living their normal, happy lives! Help us congratulate Renka and Luca!

Patient of the week!

This week we had the most loving cat stay with us. Geri, who is very laid back, came in to see us because he wasn’t able to keep any food down and was very nauseous.
With a few days of intravenous fluids, some medication and lots and lots of cuddles he slowly started eating some treats and got to go home to his humans and fur siblings! 🐾💕🐾

Patient of the Week!

Meet Nebula! (and her new nose!)

This gorgeous wee girl came in to see us last week for a big facelift procedure! She had excess skin sitting over her already very squished (but very cute) face. The excess skin was removed, her nostrils were widened, her soft palate was shortened and thinned, and her laryngeal saccules were removed. This is known as a BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway surgery) procedure.
This procedure is very important to brachycephalic breeds such as pugs, French, and English bulldogs. It helps to resolve gastrointestinal, respiratory, and overheating issues in these breeds.

Check out that before and after! The last photo was taken today at her post-op check and how good does she look?!?! We are super happy to report she is doing remarkably well at home with her humans!

Our surgeon, Christina Morris, would be happy to provide information to owners of these breeds. Give her a call at the clinic to discuss if any of these procedures could benefit your little squishy!

Patient of the Week!

We have an update on one of our past patients, Bruce.

Bruce is a heading dog that fractured his metatarsals after an accident with the quad bike. Luckily we were able to stabilize and surgically repair the fractures. Bruce ended up staying with us for a period of time and quickly became loved by our staff. We removed one of the plates as his body just decided it didn’t want it to live there anymore. We are pleased to say he is slowly returning back to work and loving his time playing with sheep.
We will miss Bruce and wish him all the best for his life ahead.

This month has been a big month for us here at Wigram Vet and we would like to thank everyone’s continued support throughout and give everyone an update! 🐾🐾

If you have come into the clinic in the last month you may have noticed some new faces and some missing! Dani, one of our lovely vet nurses, had a healthy baby boy early in June and Olivia got to enjoy a European summer! In their absence we have had some awesome nurses here helping us, thanks to everyone for being so kind to them. 💕💕

And so we have more than one patient of the week/month, keep an eye out the next few days!

Patient of the week!

This week our patient of the week is Meg! She is a golden retriever (with a little bit of border collie) who came to see us this week to be desexed.
She was not only brave and pretty unbothered about her day at the vets, but she woke up with her tail wagging and cuddles for everyone 💕❤

Desexing is so important for the wellbeing and safety of our pets, preventing health issues, behavioural issues and reduces unplanned breeding.

To chat to us about desexing, give us a call on 03 929 0987.

Patient of the Week!

Meet Ziggy!
This sweet cat came in for a visit to Wigram Vets this week and the owner was convinced their furry friend was a girl. After a quick check, we discovered this cutie is actually a boy! We admitted him on the same day for his neuter and he is doing great!

Neutering your cat is so important, it helps prevent health issues, reduces unwanted behaviours like spraying, and keeps our pet population in check.

If you would like to book your cat's neuter, give us a call on 03 929 0987.
