There have been parvovirus cases identified in suburbs within the Christchurch area.

It is a highly contagious virus that unfortunately can be fatal that is spread through infected faeces and contaminated surfaces like grass, footpaths, bedding, bowls and hands.

Symptoms may include:
Vomiting
Diarrhea, this may contain blood
Not wanting to eat
Lethargy

If your dog is showing any of these signs please call the clinic before coming in so we can advice the next steps and protect other patients.

The best protection is vaccination! Avoid taking puppies or unvaccinated dogs to high risk areas such as dog parks, shared grass areas and walking tracks.

If your unsure if your dog is up to date on vaccinations please call the clinic and we can check.

Please share with other local dog owners, especially anyone with a puppy.
