Animal Orthopaedics It is stressful enough knowing your pet requires surgery. For peace of mind, our packages have fixed prices so there are no unwanted financial surprises.

With Animal Orthopaedics clinics in Christchurch and Wellington, we focus on providing gold standard elective orthopaedic packages to referring veterinary practices and their clients. Our experienced surgical team performs each surgery precisely, calmly and quietly. After surgery, your pet wakes up in a dedicated temperature controlled warming room. During anaesthesia recovery, our lovely recovery

nurse sits with your pet so they are not alone. All our patients go home with multimodal pain relief on the same day of surgery. This avoids separation anxiety and expensive after-hours care.

Thank you Kelly and Stella for the amazing review ✨🖤

Every patient who walks through our doors is unique — and that means their care needs to be unique too. 🐾

Some patients are confident and curious, while others may be nervous, fearful or overwhelmed by a new environment.

Our vets and team take the time to build trust, work at each patient’s pace and make their visit as calm and positive as possible. Sometimes that means slowing things down, giving them space, offering plenty of reassurance and letting them come to us when they’re ready. 💛

Pain-free felines🖤💛 🐱

This lovely 15-year-old boy, Fuzz, presented with sudden-onset lumbosacral pain and tail dysfunction.

X-rays demonstrated transitional vertebrae at the lumbosacral junction, which can contribute to nerve compression and discomfort.

Fuzz has started epidural steroid injections with our team at Animal Orthopaedics Christchurch, with his response carefully monitored after each treatment. We’re thrilled that his owner has already noticed an improvement since his first visit! 🐾

If you are worried that your beloved feline might be “slowing down” then check out https://painfreecats.org/ and see your vet to check in.

Every cat deserves a comfortable pain-free life!

Bilateral TPLO – Can we do both knees in one surgery? 💛

The answer is yes! For the right dog, having both knees repaired in a single surgery can be life-changing. However, every patient is assessed individually by our surgeon to determine the safest and most appropriate approach.

Lainey is recovering beautifully after her bilateral TPLO, weight-bearing really well on both legs with healthy incisions and minimal swelling. 🐾

What an amazing start to her recovery! Well done, Lainey and her family! 🐶💪

Franklyn's trading a nasty fracture for a fresh start 🐶🔩

This handsome wee pup visited our Wellington clinic after suddenly crying out while running and turning, becoming acutely lame on his right hind.

Pre-op radiographs revealed a tibial tuberosity avulsion fracture, which Dr Andrew Worth repaired using a 2mm pin placed in the tibial tuberosity, along with two 1.5mm K-wires placed from proximal to distal in the plateau as cross pins.
Intra-op imaging confirmed accurate implant placement, so the K-wires were bent, and a 19G tension band wire was placed around the 2mm pin to complete the construct 🦴

Franklyn recovered smoothly post-surgery, resting comfortably with his favourite toy from home by his side 💪🥰

Successful recovery is all about safe confinement and controlled activity—and how that looks will depend on your pet's personality, your home, and your family's routine.

For some pets, a crate is the best option. For others, a puppy pen, a small room, a kennel, or another secure space in your home.

We'll work with you to create a confinement plan that suits your pet while still supporting a safe and successful recovery. Our team is here to guide you - making sure your pet is comfortable and you feel confident caring for them at home.

Every recovery journey is unique, and together we'll find the approach that's right for you and your pet! 🐶🐱🐾

🐾 Dave is lapping up the royal treatment post TPLO! 💛🖤🫅

Poor Dave came to see our team as he was carrying his leg and non-weight bearing after a collision with another dog. This brave guy is now post surgery and lapping up the love and attention. While recovery may take a little bit longer due to significant muscle loss, everything is healing beautifully and he's right on track.

With plenty of physiotherapy, home exercises, and rest at home we're excited to watch their strength continue to grow. Keep up the amazing work Dave and family—we're all cheering you on! 💪🐶

Yogi is officially crusing on the road to recovery 😎🐾

Like many flat-faced breeds, Yogi had Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), making exercise, warm weather, and even sleeping a challenge.

Our surgical team corrected multiple areas of airway obstruction, including:
👃 Widening narrowed nostrils
💨 Removing everted laryngeal saccules
👅 Reshaping an elongated soft palate
🩺 Removing enlarged tonsils

The surgery went smoothly, and Yogi is now on the road to recovery. Early intervention can make a huge difference for brachycephalic dogs, improving their breathing, comfort, and quality of life.

🖤 Breathe easier. Live happier.
