Located in Christchurch, Catnap Café opened in July 2018 and is the South Island's first and only cat cafe. ver homes for rescue cats. We work alongside Cat Rescue Christchurch to increase the number of stray and abandoned cats being re-homed, to educate the community about the importance of desexing, and promote adoption. The café provides both a permanent home for four resident rescue cats, and a foster home for rescue cats and kittens that are available for the public to adopt. The café is divided into two areas, a food area and a cat area. The food area is much like a normal cafe in which you can order food and drinks (these can also be taken through into the cat area). The cat area is a place for people and cats to hang out together in a fun and cosy environment. You can choose to spend your time in either or both areas! As well as providing an adoption service, the cafe is a great place for cat lovers to simply spend time with cats, especially those who aren’t able to have cats of their own such as elderly people in rest homes, students, travellers and renters. Group bookings and other private events are welcome and we also run evening events such as yoga, movie nights, drawing classes, quizzes and board game nights.

Better late then never, so here are the photos from the first week of the Catnap 8th Birthday Tattoo Event!! 😸

This whole event was so much fun, and a huge thank you to Ebony (IG: ej__tattoo) and Emma (IG: emmalillytattoos) for hauling all your gear down to the cafe and inking up some of our coolest customers!

We only had enough tattoo spots for eight people, but the remainder still got to get inked up... by way of some honestly pretty high quality water transfer tattoos 🤙

Week two photos up tomorrow with a bit of a different vibe photography-wise so keep an eye out.

Annie Alfalfa has been adopted! 🐈🏡

Annie came to us with her brother Gary Garbanzo earlier this year. Originally we had planned to adopt the two out together but Annie soon let us know she’d had quite enough of her pesky brother thank you vey much! 😼

Annie is a sweet, affectionate girl and is always quick to start purring as soon as you give her any attention. She has a sassy side too though and isn’t afraid to be pushy about getting what she wants! She was a bit of a food fiend around here as well and would often be straight on the table when we delivered customers orders!

We wish her all the best with her new family ❤️

Rei went to her new home recently! ❤️

Rei came to the cafe last year with her brother Zen and sister Sunsi. They were all found with severe eye infections when they were little and Rei was the only one who was able to keep one of her eyes 👁️ Not that missing eyes hold any of them back!

She is a very charming girl and a total lap cat so of course she wins over everyone who meets her! She is clever, chatty, and bold! Her absolute favourite pass time here was to run and throw herself into our hanging macrame cat bed to make it swing back and forth, then jump out and chase the swinging rope hanging off the bottom! 🤪 Of course, her adopters are getting her one to have at home ❤️

She’s not all sweet and innocent though, at meal times she was always first to finish and try to steal food from the other cats, and she would growl while eating to let the other cats know that although she would definitely try to steal their food, they would definitely not get away with the same thing! 😼

Say hello to Ralph and Riley! 👋 They’ve been with us for awhile now but we haven’t introduced them here yet! If you’ve visited us in the last few weeks though, you’ve probably already met them, and maybe even had one (or both) on your lap! 🐈🐈

These two have made themselves right at home at the cafe and are really in their element here. They both love snuggling on people’s laps and have endless energy!

Ralph is a boisterous boy! He’s always up to something, usually mischief, and always wants to be involved in whatever is going on. He’s very friendly and affectionate and pretty much wants constant attention. He loves to run through any open door and is always trying to trip us up smooching around our feet! 😅

Riley is a real sweetheart! She can be a little more shy than her brother to start with but warms up quickly once she realises you’ll give her attention and pats! She is very snuggly and loves to get really nice and cosy on laps and chests. She’s a very gentle, affectionate girl but very energetic and playful too! 🥰

They love to share a human and it’s not uncommon to have one of them on your chest and one on your lap at the same time! ❤️
